Siderio-

From Karl's pics it looks like your buttplate has to be thicker.

Siderio,

I do know of someone who has an original Steyr Clip and housing assembly. It also has a the trigger guard that was used to make casts for the Hero gun guard. I will send him your information to get in contact with you if he is willing to help out, which I have a feeling he would be.

Good to see you have not given up.

WOW Sid, the new blaster looks GREAT.

I bought one of your previous metal versions that I haven't even unpacked yet. I didn't have time to work on it, but I wanted to get it while they were still available.

Now I wish I had waited a few months to buy your World-Con model. Hopefully I can get enough money together to buy the new one before you sell out.

Anyway, once again, NICE work!

Since I am unwilling to cut off my hand and send it to you, these measurements will have to be sufficient.

Another question to everyone: would you like that the ammo clip be made in metal or plastic?

Siderio,

First, everything you have done is fantastic. I am a huge fan of your work, and I am grateful that you are willing to share what you have done and will do with our community here.

Second, color me very interested in one of your kits when you are ready to put them out.

Third, I believe the more metal you can incorporate, the better. However, if it is not possible, it will not make the kit any less desirable from me.

Beautiful stuff!!

Tom

This last question by Siderio is a very good one and I think bares considerable thought...

I recall being VERY excited about his first ALL METAL kit, and it's a GREAT kit don't get me wrong here, but it is simply too heavy.

Some of you may want to kill me for saying this but, I replaced the barrel on mine with a turned aluminum one and ELIMINATED the internal cylinder all-together and it's STILL a bit too heavy! Maybe a plastic clip is the way to go to help lighten it a bit more?

I was told a while ago that the clip on the original (in Karl's Photo's) is PLASTIC and I'm wondering if this is true? Maybe Karl can varify this?

If it's true and I had known it at the time I was building up Siderio's last Blaster, it would have started me thinking about changing the clip out for a strong plastic one to lighten it even more.

The mag housing and mag on a real Steyr is plastic, actually I think it is nylon. Either way it is not metal.

It is very unlikely that they would recast the plastic housing in metal for the movie as it would serve no practical purpose and probably become very heavy.

My understanding is that the clip is plastic, although at the time I did not notice.

I would point out that the real gun is quite heavy, as you would expect.

Actually the only measurement that matches perfectly is the 55mm... the other measurements do not seem to match.

HOWEVER I believe this is still OK, since I was just taking rough estimated measurements off of my fingers. Only the 55mm measurement really corresponds to something on the grip itself.

Also my fingers are arranged in 3-D space, and while I was trying to "project" the measurements into a flat plane when I used the calipers, my guesses may not have been very successsful. Does that make sense?

In any event I think the 55mm is a good measurement and matches well between the two photos.

MY PHOTO.......SIDERIO'S PHOTO
55mm.............55mm
94...................88
60...................54
25...................30

Tough call re: the clip. On one hand, I love the idea of an all-metal gun. On the other, IF the original piece was plastic, then I'd rather stay true to the original.

And Once Bitten, I think you have a valid point. Weight and heft is great, but too much might be a bit overwhelming. If there's a way to reduce some of the weight -- especially towards the front of the gun -- that might not be a bad thing...

Still, I'd vote to go with whatever's most authentic. Plastic or metal, either one would be fine with me.

I also purchased one of Sids original metal blasters - it's a work of art.
Definitely some of the best metal casts I've ever seen.
I'd also like to add that Sid replaced at piece that I managed to screw up - he did it completely free of charge, including the postage!

I'm very much looking forward to this new kit, it's great that Sid is showing us his masters and asking for input - should make a very accurate blaster.

As for the clip - it should be resin...

Serafino,

The image as been taken not perpendicularly.I did so because the other measures for me were obvious, I explaned how I did to obtain the measures my self. As soon I will have the time I will make some more shots with right angle of view.

I personally would be interested in the plastic clip for the same reasons as stated above (accuracy to Hero, and overall weight). The trigger guard was recast in metal though. Also the bulldog grip frame that I have is made of aluminum. Let me know if that is also a part you might need to get info on.

My friend said he would be willing to help out with the Steyr clip and housing if he can get them back quickly.
