No, I don't want one. It's tacky as hell. Bryant's not a classy guy.

The lampshade has six sides. Two of the pictures on the shade are visible in the film...another is visible in a behind-the-scenes shot.

At first I thought they might be shots of famed author/hunter Ernest Hemingway:

But on a closer look they are probably just random hunting photos with an Asian theme.

It's a safe bet Ridley was trying to say something about Bryant's bloodthirsty personality.

Yeah I think it was intended to suggest that Bryant was not the most tasteful guy on the block, either when it came to animals or people, or nearly people.

It could also suggest that Bryant equated the job with big game hunting. A safari in a savage land with big caliber weapons hunting the most dangerous game you can find.

Exactly.

And is the base of the lamp an elephant foot? Or painted to resemble one?

Makes you wonder what the inside of Bryant's home looks like.

Have you noticed this one?

It's the Green Saturn Lamp that sits on Deckard's Piano...as I understand it, it's VERY hard to find.

I think you might be right Snake, that lamp body looks like its been sculpted to look like an elephant's foot. I'm starting to wonder if that lamp didn't come out of a Pier 1 store looking like that.

I could just picture Bryant's house being decorated with all kinds of black market taxidermy shit that found its way out of the evidence lock up and into his collection.

Hey! I think the base of Bryant's Lamp may be a small Rhino Foot!
Check THIS out:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Rhino-Foot-Door-Stop-Rowland-Ward-or-Edward-Gerrard_W0QQitemZ120235707612QQihZ002QQcategoryZ67212QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It could probably be converted into a lamp pretty easily!
I don't know...I might have to have it...Very Happy

I think this mignt be a more affordable alternative.

I also think the lamp is a rhino foot. I think with a nicer paint job, that fiberglass icebucket would look damn close.

It looks to be the right size...great find!
I wouldn't want a REAL Rhino foot anyway...
I think you are correct about the paint job as well.

I've searched all over eBay for lithophane lamps and the only ones I've seen have angel or fairy motifs... This has got to be a one-of-a-kind antique, especially if the rhino foot is real.

Speaking of which, there still seems to be a market for real rhino feet:

Bet every bidder is asking the seller if he'll part with it... Razz

To continue the discussion, I saw images on LA2019 and one is a clear shot of the lamp and the foot in particular: yes, it's a rhino foot.
As for the images on the lamp shade for sure one is of a hunter kneeling near a water buffalo...the search continues

If people want to repro the lamp there's a lot of pics at:
www.taxidermyemporium.co.uk (rhino feet and old safari pictures)
or for old safari pics only: www.theodoreroosevelt.org

Thanks Andy...the problem with this type of lamp is that they were usually one of a kind; a type of memento for the hunter and his party: take the pictures of the safari and the foot of your prized kill, then go to a reputable taxidermist and ask to mount everything and make it as lamp Confused As I said in my previous post, someone should tackle this project; btw, the shade is an hexagon and it's a double pull-chain on/off to light the bulb Wink

Why couldn't Bryant have had a simple woman's-leg lamp, like in A Christmas Story.

You're right Karl; as hunters of Skin-Jobs it was known that some of the Rep-Detects were collecting and mounting some body parts of their kills.
The O.D. 5 (Oversight Division 5) put an end to the practice of a few in 2017 Wink
