|
|
Well, it's sunday morning. I spent most of yesterday working on my next custom blaster: The grips anyhow:
I started with some blocks of molding from home depot, I liked the grain, and they were ultra cheap:
After about 4 hours of dremel work, I got to here:
Then, this morning I sat down and started sanding my ass off, until I got 'em where I wanted 'em (well, almost):
I'm driving up to Michigan on Wednesday (10 hours across 3 states! all my lonesome) and I want to have this sucker done by the time I gotta leave.
This is my first time creating wood grips, but it won't be my last. Using the coping saw to cut away the big chunks was the hardest part of the project, otherwise it's been time consuming but very easy. Mostly dremel work shaping the wood block down to where I wanted it.
The tricky part was not cutting my own fingers with the dremel while I was shaping it.
More pictures soon! _________________ I don't have enough blasters! |

Can't wait to see them when they are done. I am so surprised that more people have not done this. I have only seen one built up ever (a PKD 1) that had real wood grips. Great work Noeland. |

Thanks Andy, I knew you'd like it. We share an appreciation of variant blasters.
I've been wanting to try making custom grips for years now, and I'm happy to finally have done this. Now I just need to do some for a full size blaster! _________________ I don't have enough blasters! |

Thanks guys, I applied several coats of clear acrylic last night, and they are looking great so far, though one grip has a small black dusty hair imbeded in the clear coat, I think I can extract it with no real damage.
pics to follow tonight or tomorrow night. _________________ I don't have enough blasters! |

Those look great Noeland. Are you going to add in an inset medallion on the grip like a S&W might have? I've always wanted to do a set like on this Ruger:
Its basically a wrap around rubber grip with wood panel insets. _________________

My plan worked!!!! ahahahahaha!
After I get back to Atlanta in the first week of december I'm planning to complete the whole blaster! So, there is your deadline!
For whatever reason I may be making you feel lazy anyhow. Get it done!!
