OK, so here we are then.

http://www.karlderrick.com/BRbox/index.html

The leatherette faced foam is the eggbox stuff, turned over. The wrong foam, but I needed something to test the leatherette on. The final foam will be flat on the bottom and one inch thick. The foam in the lid is a shade too small, also, but it's all I had left of the sample from the foam supplier.

This box has the old style VIN plate on it, not the revised final version.

The leather goes well with the woodstain. The colours all work very well.

Forgive the blaster. I no longer have a Tomenosuke, and what's in there is a glued up resin blaster I use for fitting holsters. The cutout fits a Tomenosuke perfectly

So, with very minor cosmetic tweaks, this is what will be delivered.

A couple of things - if you're still looking for more Steyr badges there is a seller on eBay offering them. Not sure if it's against the rules to post links to eBay sales here? If you would like the link just send me a message.

Second, any chance you would be able to offer the plaque on its own? I've made myself a box for mine (nothing like as luxurious as yours!) and would love on of those plaques to finish it off.

Thanks, but I'm not looking for more badges for this run. It's already capped.

I have an alternative in mind for the Steyr badge for the next run. Something I'll produce myself, and can rely on the supply of.

We have no current plans to offer the VIN plate on its own at present.

Hey Karl,
it's really looking great. I didn't imagine the wood stain would look like that, it really works amazingly.

I didn't expect you would change the shape of the leather. it looks nice though. I would just say if possible that the circle stitching around the badge would be nice. it looks empty without it.

great work, thanks

now, those stained wood boxes are really astonishing! I got stuck on the pictures since I last posted, and really didn't expect to have that grain and colours, it's really nice!

Thanks for the positive comments. Yes, the wood stain works well.

Your opinion is that it looks 'empty' without the stitching, mine is that it looks 'busy' with it.

With respect, I'm done with any and all consultation on this project.

In fact, the next run there won't be any consultation at all.
The design will be locked, the boxes made, and people can buy them if they like them.

thanks,

Karl

I'm not planning on the 5223 stamping on this one.
The main reason is that it's already on the VIN plate.

I want to clear up a basic misunderstanding about this project if I can.

The first box I showed was in no way, shape, or form a prototype for the boxes in this run. It was simply a box of the same kind that I made as a one off for a client.
It served as inspiration for the run, because people asked if I was going to make display/storage boxes available.

The box which is linked in the post above is the first and only prototype for this run.

The other box is unrelated. As such, it's unreasonable to state that I've 'changed' anything. I haven't.
The box linked above is the first showing of the box I'm making.

Thanks for the positive feedback.

If you like the box/es and missed this run don't worry.
I have plans for another.

It will be a variation.

If you can't wait, then keep an eye on this thread close to delivery day.
I haven't done a project yet where everyone who signed up at the start stayed all the way to the end...

Thanks for posting the pics of the 'Final' Version.
Looks pretty cool.
Also like that there is plenty of room inside the box
for a possible compartment etc. Cool
