I bought one of these script copies for a friends birthday last year. I paid $20.

The one you got is probably a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy of one of these. It looks real to me, but I can't really tell for sure unless I look at it closer. It looks like the number on the upper right corner is written in pencil, which it should be. Still, it can be fake. The materials all look vintage though. I have some that are second or third generation copies and have some age to them as well. The penciled in numbers don't usually show up well on the copies. Especially over repeated copying.

This particular script though is still overpriced I agree. It has been on ebay for a long time now. I have seen other screen used scripts sell closer to $2,000, in some cases with the provenance and signature of the actor from the film that had it. I think Ridley himself sold one of his scripts IIRC, and it had a lot of notation in the margins. Something like that would fetch a lot more than this one. It is all about the notations for something like that. That is the stuff that really shows history of the movie, and adds the personality of the owner of the script.

Using a high "Buy it Now" with a "Make Offer", will also highlight it in a lot of searches. I have a feeling they would take a lot less.

I agree with Andy that it is hard to tell if it is original or not. The only thing i would add is that i do have one that i bought from Tom Duffield and there is a difference between the Ebay one and mine and that is a 3rd punch hole.

I agree, I have an original from a friend who was an A.D. during pre-production and there is a 3rd middle punch hole in it as well. The number appears to be in pen however.

The multi-copied one I bought had three holes as well. I'll check to see if the number is in pen or pencil, but I do know that it's the same number (86)

I was under no illusion that it was anything more than a common copy.
My other question; Wouldn't the final draft be more valuable than the Fancher one here?

This looks like the better deal.

The rarer the script, regardless of copy, will make it more valuable. The shooting scripts are going to be made in much greater numbers, and given out to more people during production. The earlier scripts are going to be only given to pre-production department heads, and such. They will in the end be much more rare. Again, the shooting scripts will be valued more for the margin notation, and who the original owner was.

I think I have an earlier version of this same script myself, that I saw sell as an original a couple times including on screenused.com. Mine was velo bound however, which is a common binding for movie scripts as well back then. The two hole (of the normal 3) is also common when I look at script auctions. I think the people who got the first scripts got them loose and then had them bound themselves. Especially a pre-production script. I will have to check to see what my number is on it, and see if it is also in, pen or pencil, or just a copy. It would be fun to compare our numbers too Smile.

Double checked my script number. It's 69...

I asked my AD friend what film he went to after bailing on preproduction of BR and he said it was Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. Heh

I have pics of the #69 script in my files. Did you post images of these? I thought I got them from ebay. They are the same dated script as the one here, the July 1980 one.

Forgot to mention that mine is #199.
The scripts came in 3 different covers, Tan, Red and Blue although i have never seen a blue one myself. They also had screw posts originally not fold over brass pins.

Since the last post i have now added a blue covered script with brass screw binding posts, it was Ivor Powell's shooting script and it has coloured pages to denote script changes.
Image will go up on my website shortly.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. There will be quite a few additions going up shortly including the production design artwork and the spare set of Tyrells spectacles. I also have the production costings for the movie including the fees paid to the actors. I have so much to go through at the moment including 3 more original dyeline Sherman Labby story boards and it's very exciting.
