Here's a little project I've started. A plaque featuring the Tyrell owl logo and motto. It's milled from MDF on my CNC router and measures 11 by 13 inches. I was going to wait to post until it was painted but I'm pretty excited by how it came out so I just had to share.

That's gorgeous. The bevels really look great in the lines of the owl!

Very nice. Very Happy

Are you going to paint it? I know paint would lend something of a shell like coating to protect the it since MDF is kinda mushy. Maybe a faux marble look.

Yes, I'm going to paint it a weathered bronze color. The MDF that I used is actually a premium product with a very high density and consistancy throughout. So it cuts very cleanly, paints well and is not very "mushy". Far superior to the junk they sell at Home Deopt!

I think it looks amazing unpainted. What other materials can you cut into?

Wood, acrylic, wax, cast plaster, high density urethanes, jello too, I suppose!

There are CNC machines that can do aluminum and stone, but I didn't build mine for that. There are slso some all stainless steel machines designed for carving ice, those are really cool!

Aahh, CNC machines (one day)...very cool project Dave Cool yes, MDF rules (saw your BPRD logo on the RPF: nifty for sure!). I'm sure that with your machine you could do the Tyrell tile as well...you know, the one that looks like a pyramid Wink

I have only a vague recolection of what the Tyrell tile looks like. Do you have any reference?

Any pics showing Tyrell main room with the owl and during Rachael's/Leon's interview + the partitions behind Holden are of the same design but in a bigger scale (as well as the shot in the elevator in Tyrell's building).

Okay, now my brain hurts! I've been staring at those damn pyramid tiles for more than an hour trying to figure them out! Quite the optical illusion. There appear to be two types, the ones behind the owl in the Great Room are more dimensional, more pyramidal, while the large ones that make up the dividers in the interrogation room are really very flat, compressed. You can see just how flat they are in the side view when Holden smashes through them.

The flat version of the design is also used, in smaller scale, on the doors into Tyrell's bedroom. I think I'll tackle milling out one of those!

Yep, that tile is on my mind also: very difficult to make because of all those grooves in the form of pyramids. One side is respecting the triangle (bottom side) while the lines of the other sides has been displaced completely Shocked creating a "cap" at the top of the triangle (another pyramid if you want)...good luck Dave

Here's the painted Tyrell Logo plaque. I revised the logo artwork a little and changed the orientation of the plaque, rotating it 90 degrees so I could make the motto a little bigger.

If there is enough interest, I will offer them for sale in the Prop Shop.

Looks really good with the bigger copy on the bottom, and painted up!
