Offworld and PKD Repaint

Compare between Offworld and PKD.

PKD is beefy, Offworld though having sharp detail is toylike and a bit flimsy feeling.


I wanted to do this one not so hard worn as the "Worldcon" version. More like "Holster wear". Gun was broken down into its constituant parts and repainted.
The upper and bolt were replaced, and the grip base is metal, the rest is un modified, just cleaned up resurfaced and painted.

PKD, Worldcon style without the rust.
It was resurfaced and re painted using alcad steel and transparent black shading and weathering, the black parts are satin black. No other extras were applied just cleanup and repaint.

Two EXCELLENT pieces there.

I love how the PKD's funky style gives it a flavor of its own. And you've shown that even the Offworld can shine with the proper treatment.

Exquisitely turned out blasters mate - warmest congratulations!!

I especially like the OffWorld because the weathering is understated but it still leaves the blaster looking authentic and solid.

The offworld paint job is my default blaster paint job setting.

If the gun isnt metal I give it a nice base coat of silver, usualy a cople coats, once that's cured I hit it with just enough black to cover, trying not to lay it on too thick, then I very carefully use steel wool to buff the high wear spots to reveal the silver underneath. I then seal it with crystal clear sealer.

If the gun is metal well I just omit the silver base coat process.

I really hate the offworld blasters, but a lot of the repaints make them look great, and your weathering is always second to none.

Rick's work on the other hand, I absolutely LOVE and your finish over his sculpt is certainly something to behold.

Offworld grip is way too small don't know what they were thinking.

The PKD feels great in the hand.

What's the size of the OffWorld grips compared to the PDK?

The space on the grip with the three finger grooves, between the trigger guard and the base plate is 65 mm on the PKD and 60 mm on the Offworld, small but noticible difference.

The offworld grip is pretty unmistakable if you know what to look for. It's shinier, injection molded and it has a thin border around the checkered section.

The Offworld was sized and copied after the Hartford, which used the older Coyle V3 as reference for size. Rich admitted he sized his grips from a misproportioned stunt cast, so the grips were not sized up the same as the Steyr parts. I think the Hartfords also got away with their size because they admitted their market had slightly smaller hands. Still, I find my Hartford to be a little bit larger than my Offworld.

The more I look, the more I learn...thanks guys for pointing out the details of those many models out there. I will buy the best weapon for the best price one of these days; either in the form of a kit, or complete I'm just concerned about the grip: I have large hands
