Who knows, if it's been freed of all the bullshit that the studio heads have attached to the Alien/Aliens franchise, it could actually be a decent picture. _________________

Agreed, joberg! Here's the latest I have found:
"CHARLIZE Theron is being lined up to star in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.
The South African-born actress is in final talks with 20th Century Fox and will likely take on a lead role in the film, which is slated for release in 2012.
Prometheus is a science-fiction film in the vein of the Alien trilogy. Scott originally wanted to make the film a prequel to the 1979 Alien film, but eventually turned it into another project.
The film will also star Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender."
Charlize Theron was pretty damn good in "The Road" adaptation movie. _________________ Replicants are like any other machine...they're either a benefit, or a hazard. If they're a benefit it's not my problem. |

I think she was very good in ''Monsters'' and o.k. in ''The Road'' (but that's just me )...I do think that the studio are counting on a ''bankable star'' for the lead role (Rapace is fairly new to the North American public; so it could be seen as a gamble for the suits at 20th Century Fox). My money would've been on Rapace, not Theron |

According to this website....
http://www.alienprequelnews.com/
...they're both in it.
Repace was great in the Millennium trilogy (and I don't know why on earth they are going to the trouble to remake it). |

Thanks Andy for sharing...interesting to say the least. If they're starting principal photography in 3 weeks it means that the whole story and pre-production was underway quite a long time ago. |

Thanks for sharing Andy...you'd mentioned Nolan before; guess you weren't the only one Since it's the beginning of the story, I'm sure some names will be tossed around (Directors, Actors, etc).
We'll have to see what comes at the end. |

Thanks Andy...yeah, it's sounding better by the day; as for Theron, I still have my reservation about her...we'll see. |

Thanks for sharing Andy...not looking good about that synopsis, but it's all conjectures at that point. |

I think my resistance to it is that all of my favorite SF movies avoid the "Epic scale" story lines which now dominate the films. Even 2001:ASO had focused on small parts that only touched into an epic story. Even when they are done well they seem to overpower the human story in each of them, and I just feel drained by them.

Well said Andy. Take for example Avatar... that was just a horrible predictable epic mess. I felt drained just as you described, If not only by the fact I struggled to find some part in the story line that would be a surprise. There just was nothing there but predictable disappointment that focused on the wrong things just as you alluded to.
I am of the opinion that the days of cerebral films that make one think are almost over. Anything can be created digitally, nothing is left to the imagination. the tweeter age and instant information have kind of soured it all. I do not see this film even being anything near the original. Scott lost his touch a long time ago, and it is pretty obvious just by seeing his casting decision making. _________________ ______________________________________
