A little too blue for me...I think that more silver could be closer to the original (just my 2 cents). But all in all a very good job on that one Joseph! Cool

Fabulous job, -well done - although I think according to the Alien references I have and Martin Bowler , it shoud be a darker more purplish hue, not as blue as you have it , but that is a personal preference and is not a ctric on your excellent work !!

I am glad you like it Bassnoir! Here is a pic inside with a flash...here you can see it has the more purple hue, outside in bright light the bluish hue comes through...

Those look unbelievably great...I just threw in Alien and compared the two models to the shots on screen, and the dimensions and details match nicely. The overall impression of the models, as well, conveys the same disturbing bio-mechanical look. Hard to believe you've managed this in such a relatively short time. Very impressive work.

Not to highjack this fantastic work, but I think Ridley should commission Joseph to reproduce the ship for the prequel Wink Cool

Here is another Derelict assemble and finished by a great painter in MA.
This guy did this so fast it made my head spin...Looks awesome!

He really did a bang-up job on this... I did Davids and Johns a little rustier with a more gonzo colored base to really attract the viewer to the ships corroded and ancient look....

Thanks for the nice comments guys, That would be really cool to see it on display somewhere...and yes I will definitely make a little overview of its construction.... been a long 4 months ha ha ha!!! You wouldnt believe the project I have been approached about today....

Shocked

Here is Lanboys derelict getting coats of burnt umber wash.. I do this several times, letting it dry between each coat, and eventually it gets a corroded like "tinge" that dulls the metallic color underneath and makes a strange effect on all the conduits and piping... should be finished in a couple of hours

...as much as I like the MA painted version of the "beast" (and I genuinely do) ...I really..really like the sensibility you brought to your own paint scheme....in your painting of the "beast" the lovely lovely details of the Derelict are slightly masked by a more Chameleon/Giger coloring.....Giger is all dark and high end grey scale...very "gothic" in the best sense of the word.....one man's opinion....

Thanks so much Bassnoir, I am glad you like it! I like the idea of a strange metallic "chameleon" base color with millenia of corrosion and dust...but yet showing durability.... The actual model looks darker but the flash of the camera makes the blue really show through....

Here is Lanboys completely finished ready to ship.. I did it the exact same way. I used a bunch of my wifes Victoria's secret catalogs as packing materials... he will enjoy opening the box ha ha ha!!!!!!!!

Joseph...words cannot fully describe your masterpiece...I just unpacked it and it's resting on the kitchen table behind me....even though I had carefully watched the "process" here on the forum I was unprepared for the REALITY of the "beast"...
...the paint is...outstanding....the dark metallic quality DOES NOT come through in the pictures posted....it is NOT shiny....it's perfect...
...the scale and size is...HUGE....that is to say...perfect...

I really do need some time to take it in....since delivery about half an hour has passed so...I really need some time with this creation...

This is just a quick note to let you know it arrived little worse for wear..a few scratches on the base...short of hand carrying it to me..mighty hard to avoid ....immediately taken care of with the appropriate magic markers....
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

Bassnoir, I am really happy it arrived there safely. on Lanboys model I did put more bubbles packing material between the model and the base itself, I did get to thinking about that after I sent yours.

I am so happy you like it.. I know it looks way different than the pictures show... It just looks way different in real life. You will need the 9-volt battery..It is taped to the side of your shipping bax with velcro and just plug that into the bottom of the base and enjoy your 'alien warning signal'. I hope everything else arrived safely... I put a ton of packing material on the tips and side pods between the sides of the box.

a brown magic marker is a good idea... and you can take flat black and make it very thin with paint thinner, and dab it on the rocks and let it run down the crevices. The corrosion color is

CERAMCOAT burnt umber acrylic available at micheals' Just thin it to a water consistency and dab it on...

Please post some pics of it on your table if you can...

VERY COOL!!!!!!!!

..just had dinner...with the "beast"....it occurs to me that this is "museum" quality and worthy...I am going to give display of this a LOT of thought....funny thing is even though the Derelict is incredibly textured one does not really have to fondle it to appreciate it...meaning....putting it under glass or plexiglass would NOT be a crime...need to think on this....
...I have a bunch of Ashley Wood ThreeA toys of all sizes and these puppies need to be touched...lots of articulation making "touching" them both appropriate and necessary.....as long as you can look at the "beast" 360 degrees it COULD be under glass.....
...your thoughts?
