I actually made it slightly higher to define it and so I could get more detailing into it. I went mostly off of Giger's paintings first and then the studio model for the detailing. the cockpit seemed a little bland and too low the way it is on the large studio model, and so I just raised it slightly.. There is going to be a modification to this model in the near future that will consist of a second dome assembly that will be cast in clear resin that will be included with the kit. The plan is to build the pilot chamber in an assembly that drops down into the area of the ship. My only problem is making a space jockey so small it will be in correct size ratio...but if one wants they will be able to lower it down it would be no problem,

I will have pictures of the clear casting of the top up tonight so you see how it sits in relation to the bridge when it gets assembled... It actually will sit lower than this picture is representing... I actually mold the bridge with it attached, then flip it over and cast it in clear... so when the builder assembles it, the top ring fits flush with the hole in the bridge.... You will like when you get it

Guys here is the first raw casting of the top in the clear dome top...

here is the plan:

I need to cut off the dome on the original model, and put this clear one on so It will be translucent for the "telescope-navigation device" the space jockey uses, then I will go ahead and mold Bassnoir's model.

(I will have the original model with the transparent dome and correct height thanks to Fred and the copy will be exactly the same).

So...when I cast this thing.. I will mold the dome first by pouring one ounce of clear resin, and then when That sets up, I will mask the clear cast part off inside the bottom of the mold and then do the rest of the ship in the regular process as planned....so the finished effect will be an large ship with an integrated clear dome... bitchin' idea huh...

I will use the mold of the dome for the drop-in retrofit I plan to make for this model in the fall..

Here is the first raw part pulled from the mold before trimming...

Here is the ship with the dome silo cut down 33% for accuracy and a bit of paint on the clear dome so I could line everything up correctly. The dome will be molded clear and integrated into the amber resin hull, so there will be no need to glue that onto the ship. I have a little bit more work to do here in some frames for the screens and minor details.., but as you can see on Bassnoirs model, it should be a pretty good effect...

Here is the finished base. It will take a lot of materials to cast, but it will be worth it. Here is Bassnoirs' original, and pictured on it is a digital sound module with a small speaker. I will build this into the bottom of the base. when a hidden button is pressed, it will play the 20 second acoustical warning transmission recorded right off the deleted scene from ALIEN.

I am not sure what this will add over-all model, but if anyone here has any input as to whether I should include this with the kits, any opinions will be greatly appreciated.

I for one could not resist this for Bassnoir..!

Thank you all for the feedback!

I am doing the final detailing on the hammerhead side. This project took longer than I thought. I ended up having to make from scratch the tiny port mold and then cast these tiny ports 5 times. I have only 4 days left of detailing, ...going to super detail this part of the ship as well..It will be ready to mold by Sunday afternoon.... Sorry everyone this has taken so long..I am 3 weeks behind schedule ... but I think it will be worth it

In these pics are the very beginning of the detailing, including the little cast ports and conduits..

The same thing with a light dusting of primer before I start heavy detailing and Cyanoacrylate gap filler...

Finishing out the hammerhead side.... 99% done... ready to mold the hull and base next Saturday, and kits can start shipping..

I used:
4 feet of Foam
1 Gallon of Fiberglass
around 48 feet of music wire
4 packs of Guitar strings
1,500 pins
2 gallons of polyester filler
1 package of spaghetti
45 tubes of super glue
1 large bottle of cyanoacrylate gap filler
1 large bottle of super thin cyanoacrylate
10 epoxy kits
small amounts of resin and silicon to custom cast ports.

I will spend free time this weekend going over and touching up the details very closely and applying several coats of clear lacquer sealer to the model so as to make a nice mold.... Then Bassnoir gets his ship finally and Lanboy gets the first derelict!

I will just have to make one for myself as well!!!
