I had to throw this pic up as I just recieved it and I think it's looking great! Just LOOK at that collar!!! Too Cool...I haven't seen texture and shape like that since the movie!
The thread we are using by the way is called "Rum-Raisin" and it matches the color of the coat exactly.
It's almost finished...I am having trouble comprehending HOW Rachael is maintaining her break-neck speed on this, she is simply amazing.
We also welcome comments here...is anyone interested out there?

Thanks guy's! It's good to know there are those out there that appreciate the finer things.
Rachael say's the Trench will be finished before the week is out...then guess what we are doing with it? Spritzing it with water and throwing it in a dryer with an old pair of tennis shoes! Then I'm going for a long walk in the rain wearing it ...more pics soon!

The coat is reassembled and now has sleeves with wrist cinches.

Very cool!
I'm sure it's probably mostly digital photo artifacts, but it makes the fabric look like it has a very heavy weave. . . almost like corduroy.
Is the fabric pretty "smooth" in person? _________________ I find your lack of faith disturbing. . . |

Although we purchased the material together and I dyed it myself...I'm going to let Rachael answer this question...she's the real expert on material.
This material is still available by the way. We got it on sale at a Jo-Annes Fabric Store but I have seen it since in the upholstery dept...it's a fairly heavy weave. |

There is a visible grain to the fabric, and it is on the heavy side. I would like to find a lighter weight for any future projects, but this fabric had that certain something so I went with it. You can see in the rough pics that there was some fraying which I would like to avoid. _________________ Is this testing whether I'm a Replicant or a lesbian, Mr. Deckard? |

Hey Superjedi,
Check this link for photo's of the Trench that are more clear:
http://nopeek.tripod.com/bitten/id94.html
I get what you mean by looking at the above pic...it does look like corduroy in this pic but it's NOT! You were right...it's something to do with the pixels that adds that effect to the image.
The image here that represents the smoothness of the fabric best is the one with the two buttons on it.
Let me know what you think! |

Yeah, I see what you mean. Must be compression in the pics.

looks like a Moire' pattern. The fabric of the coat looks like a denim, but does have a mild pattern that is reacting to the pixels differently depending on sizing.

Yes, there is a distinct weft line in the fabric but it is not ribbed like corduroy. It is more visible from some angles, but it is definately there. This really came down to a preference by the wearer, and it has a definate weight to the overall coat. Looking at the original, it is clear that it is a lighter weight poplin as opposed to the drill pictured. _________________ Is this testing whether I'm a Replicant or a lesbian, Mr. Deckard? |

O-B and Rachael,
Thanks for posting all the info and progress on the coat! I'm certainly interested in the results.
It's looking better and better! _________________ I find your lack of faith disturbing. . . |

No problem Super...can you tell how much fun we are having just bringing this coat to life? Ultimately feed-back from Propsummit Members is our pay-off so I hope you like this next post!
Rachael, take it away!

And here it is!
Still need to get a few finishing touches done, like the edge stitching and the rest of the buttons, but essentially it's complete. Next I need to start "wearing" it to loosen it up. Let's face it, Deckard should not be wearing a coat that looks new. That's the fun part; doing all those things I was told to never ever do to fabric.
Sorry the photo's are so washed out...when I finished and took the pics it was after one in the morning and the lighting wasn't so good.

There's more to come...Rachael DOES plan on making the pattern available for purchase...though, as I understand it, it's fairly advanced Tailoring. |
