				|
 |
				| Well, been at this one for awhile now.

I had a good time working on this, and it still needs some smaller details added, and I'm looking for the right gears to add to a particular section of the blaster.

The ammo is made from various hardware store bits and bobs (mostly lamp parts) with the exception of the six rounds for the upper section, which I used 380 blanks for the main body sections.

I did a lot of bending and shaping of copper (which can be a real bitch) by hand. Used a dremel, but I bent the copper by heating it, and bending with a pair of pliers in each hand. Once I got it to the basic shape, I started in with the rotary tools, and then moved to various grit wet sandpapers until it was were I wanted it.

My first time working with copper, but not my last! I have more steampunk builds planned.

I found a cool unfinished box at Hobby Lobby for $5 that had the right kind of hardware on it!!

Here are some of the work in progress shots!!

Yup, I left a few dings and scratches on the metal. I just felt it gave it some personality, and as the copper ages, I think it'll look really good.

 The grips.

I initially made the grips without staining them, like this:

finished them with an acrylic clearcoat.

And while I really liked them, they were just too damn bright looking for this steampunk build.

So, I took some more blocks of wood and shaped out some new grips. Just me and the good old dremel.

finished next to the first pair I made.

More beauty shots of the finished piece are on thier way, including a little diagram I made explaining how the blaster works, and the technology behind the steam ignition system I developed.

 Hope you guys dig it.

I think you must be in the Prop Book for all means! What a nice piece of real artwork! Consider to contribute with step by step pictures (hi-res prefereable)! Wow.

Don't take me wrong my friends. I LOVE all the blaster kits made until now, one by one, but this kind of prop work is awesome!!!!

I think my initial 96 pages project will be not enough... not enough for all the blasters!!!

 Again, NICE WORK!

				| Noeland,
I am not big into steampunk, but I do like seeing these conversions. What you did really brought the two worlds of Steampunk and Blade Runner together.

 Awesome!

 Tom

				| The wooden box would be a great base for a "Steampunk" Voight-Komff machine(hint, hint). The gun looks magnificant aswell. | |

				| It is stuff like this that make this board so special to me. Cool Idea Noeland, I love it. By the way I found a lot of cool Steam Punk greeblies in with old sewing machines. Lots of cool screws and such.

				| Thanks everybody, I appreciate the kind words from you guys.

More to come soon. I thought it might be this weekend, but alas, I have been stuck at the drawing table for most of it getting work done.

				| I used stuff I bought at home depot in the lighting dept, and some 380 blanks from fiocchi that were previously fired. The kind made for the cheapo blank revolvers from Kimar.
I'm WAY behind on posting more prop stuff, but I'll make a post detailing the bullets. They were fun to make.

				| This is a pretty sweet conversion. The copper and gold sets off very nicely.
How many blasters in your collection Noeland?

I don't know, haven't taken stock in a long time. I have been meaning to gather them all up for some new photos though.

 Maybe this weekend.
