Well I was goofing around with some acrylic margarita glass and came up with this. It's not perfect (I have some glass ones coming that match much better) but it will do for now.
So I present, Deckard's drink glass from The Snake Pit.

Looks pretty good. Now just put a little bug in there and you're all set. _________________ I find your lack of faith disturbing. . . |

Looking good, can't wait to see the glass version.
If you got some fake MEAL WORMS to go in it, & some gold-tinted clear resin, I wonder if you could make a static display that "appeared" to be ready to drink?

Still look like tentacles to me.
I've seen meal worms, they are pretty small, as I remember about 1/2" long. This looks a bit too big to be that.
On the other hand, if Harrison ford was willing to put bugs in his mouth for a shot, he must have been pretty committed. _________________ Sushi...That's what my wife used to call me: cold fish. |

They're Meal Worms...quite commonly used when people have to "Eat Bugs" on screen such as Renfield in Dracula or Scully in X-Files. Ford only had to drink one and take it back out of his mouth...no big deal.
Perfectly nutritious...if you can get past the crunchy pulp.
Great looking glass! Looks perfect to me. How'd you do it? |

Meal worms or rubber replicas of them. Most of the pet store stuff is pretty small, but a lot of big ones are in the bins too. I here they taste great fried, like chicken flavored shrimp
Awsome glass, I picked up a bunch of glass ones, but have yet to get the paints for them.

Great job, Thomas !!!
Same question as Lord Once Bitten : How do you do it ? I mean... What kind of paintings did you use ? Is it safe do drink something in it once you've done this custom job ???
did you paint the bottom of the base (foot ? How do you say in english ?) white, like the real one used on screen ? _________________ THE FUTURE IS A THING OF THE PAST |

First I decided to test it out on acrylic glasses. I picked them up for a whopping $1.25 each
Then I decided on Rustolium paint. That stuff will stick to ANYTHING. Unfortunately, the sky blue only comes in gloss. I masked off the cup and painted the blue, then the upper with flat white. To finish off the milky effect I coated both layers with Matt clear coat.
Came out pretty good. I will try next with the real glass and hopefully it will come out as good.
By the way, I feel this is the way they did it in the movie. If you look at the screen grabs, at the top of the blue, you can see something that looks like they masked it off and then painted, but they did too think a coat and the mask pulled at the paint. I have seen this first hand on other projects (got in a hurry and applied too much paint at one time)
I have 7 more of the Acrylic glasses. If someone wants one, I will sell to them at cost plus shipping/handling.
Just let me know. I think I might put these up on Ebay as a Poor Man's Prop.

Awesome stuff - I'd definitely be interested in one, with or without mealworms.
Remember that book about how to eat fried worms? |

I just realized that I have four of these glasses (in glass). Only the area where the stem connects to the base on mine is a smooth, rounded transition -- doesn't have that extra ridge.
I think I need to try painting a couple when I get a free moment...
As someone else asked -- can you drink from them, still? Are there special paints that people use for glasses so the drinks don't get poisoned? |

Your glass came out pretty cool. I started this project early last year but completely forgot about it until now. Just incase, here is the link:

I got the glasses from Target, but the ones from walmart are a little smaller and better in size. I used glass etching, which is really hard to get it even. I have also been told that there is a spray frost for glass decorations. But i have yet to find it. I hope i didnt invade your thread?

Nice job, phoenix!
And the worms might actually be "Mezcal" worms...you know, the worm found in bottles of Mezcal alcohol. Which actually aren't worms...they are some kind of moth larvae.
There is also scorpion mezcal:
