|
|
Hello, everyone -
My partner and I have decided to do the machine room in our new facility like MU-TH-UR. Below is a quick comparison of the original, and a test render from the CAD files I've done to this point.
Photogrammetry-wise, I know we're really close, but due diligence means I have to ask: Has any part of the original set survived? I would love to see one of the little stepped pyramids up close. I figured some section or one of the panels would've shown up at an auction at sone point, but so far haven't been able to locate any. Has anybody seen something like this?
Thanks!
_Mike |

Yep, I knew something like that was out there... This particular resolution doesn't provide me with any data I don't have, but it does confirm where I am, which is helpful. I usually have a hook up somewhere to get access to stuff like this, but this one I just can't seem to get my hands on directly. Thank you for posting! |

4 Years Later...
I ended up buying the original MU-TH-UR door frame when it came up for auction on Propstore
https://usm.propstoreauction.com/lot-details/index/catalog/267/lot/62123
Then I had it very, very thoroughly scanned in 3D, just to make sure it is preserved as data in case anything happens to it.
Then I built a door to go along with it.
Recent auctions of a large panel from the set, along with the absolute reference of my original door (I have confirmed it's the original) allowed me to refine my panels and the layout somewhat:
Now I'm working on the CAD for the chair. I have scoured the internet for every photo there is, but I know there are some shots out there I don't have - at least one from "Hans Kim" appears in the chair replica thread on this forum....

I need more chair references. I strongly suspect there were two chairs made - one with the colored keyboard and the cable panel on the right side and one with the cable panel on the left side and the white keyboard for insert shots.
Beyond these differences, I keep crashing into proportions conflicts between references, which would make one of the consoles slightly shorter in length and/or slightly smaller. The differences are consistent - that is the on-screen versions match each other, and the isolated/worn-out-prop versions match each other.
Because I can use my MU-TH-UR door as a real-world absolute reference, I can camera match to reference plates very accurately, but I have to approximate the camera focal length and position for the isolated shots. Still in all, they are coming up as consistently different.
Need. More. References. (Don't we always!) |

Nothing like having the original door for sure!! I know that one of our member from France built the whole chair + console. He might have pics you haven't seen before.
If you do a search, he's on the Alien discussion here on Propsummit. |

Looking good for sure...as for the greeblie on the right hand side: yes, found item as the same for the greeblie on the left (or the skeleton of one). |
