Thanks for the heating tip, Joberg 
I actually did the opposite! Primed the entire badge with gun metal grey and then painted the black background afterwards really fast...

Very nice work - love the work in progress conversation. I've learned a lot reading through this thread, but think I would be better off purchasing some badges before attempting to build my own.

I'm currently working on a new mockup. I've discarded the old one.
Once done, I'll start working on the pewter casting again. Did some more research, and come up with new ideas to get it to work.
Although finding someone who could do the metal castings for me would be great to.

That is exactly what I'm planning on. I want one in steel myself
There will be holes ready to tap in the bezel, and holes in the badge, so the bezel screws on from the back. Just like the original. Anyway, it will be a two-piece thing
