Thanks Joberg, I’ll Compare these measurements to mine over the next few days.

One thing, 19mm in my book is 3/4” not “almost a half inch”!

But I like the idea Of the 390mm - 400mm width.

I realise now I went from that 360mm mock up of the Propstore plans back to the 430mm machine. What I should have done is tried the 400mm option first. The larger head would probably have fit with the extra 40mm.

A numeral 8 and a close parantheses ) is interpreted as a sunglasses-dude emoticon...

Joberg, I've done a bit of comparing of your measurements to mine.

While not exactly the same they are in the same ball park!

I guess some of the longer distances could be 7mm - 9mm different.

Proportionally your shapes of monitors etc differ from mine.

Also some of your conversions to inches may need checking.

Like I said 19mm is more like 3/4" and you have 15mm as 1/4" somewhere.

I still can't subscribe to the 19mm button. 19mm square is bigger than a cross section of a finger!

The size of the buttons look considerably bigger when illuminated!

I think the big difference now is I'm using these Propstore plans and I don't think you are.

But hopefully we have set an approximate size.

The rest of the machine is down to personal preference/taste.

At the moment I've opted to go for a machine just short of 400mm wide using 15mm square buttons and shop bought LED graph bars which seem to be pretty standard sizes.

I think I'm looking at the main monitor with a viewing area diagonal of 4.5".

I think that the machine you'll do will represent the prop as best as possible, knowing the difficulties encountered with the lack of definite measurements.

I'm leaning, more and more, toward building (once again) the prop. As I said before, the prop is in SRS production house in London...please, someone goes there and ask the receptionist to measure any part of the machine

Fixed it. There is a box underneath when you post, that disables "smilies" aka "emoticons". Like they said above the 8 and the ) together is the old fashioned way of doing the sunglasses smiley. The coding on here will automatically convert it to the emoticon version.

Such a precise measurement!

I take it that measurement is calculated from the plans which Propstore sold?

But it got me thinking again about the size of Voight Kampff machine.

I think when I last did any thinking on this I had two possibilities. The 400mm machine and the 360mm machine.

I’ve been at this point before with the same line of thought. But here goes.

One picture has some interesting items in it which could help determine the overall width of the machine built by Mike Fink & Co

I generally look at this picture on my computer but today I printed it out on A3.

The first thing that struck me when seeing it printed, was the machine looks quite small.

There are two things in the photo that have a size that can be calculated or guessed.

One is the computer ribbon and the other the 6 way extension cable.

Computer ribbon seems to come in various sizes which determine the width.

50 way(63.5mm), 44 way (43.89mm), 40 way (50.8mm) and 37way (47mm). These are modern sizes but they can’t have changed that much.

Now in the picture the width of the ribbon fits about 8 times into the width of the machine along the front edge.

Which breaks down as follows:-

‘Ways’ being the number of wires/ connections I think.

50 ways (63.5mm) would give a machine with of 508mm

44 ways (43.89mm) would give a machine with of 351mm

40 ways (50.8mm) would give a machine with of 406mm

37 ways (47mm)would give a machine with of 376mm

The 6 way extension lead I worked out to be about 307mm in the photo. So just over 1ft. I measured a modern one of similar proportions and that was 320mm long.

So if that’s the case and you rotate the 6 way so its parallel with the machine then the machine can only be 30mm - 40mm longer than the extension. putting the width of the machine at 345mm to 360mm.

Then going back to the computer ribbon the 50 ways and 40 ways are too big. But the 44 ways and 37 ways are closer. So take and average and we are looking at 360mm.

So I think Andes 343,9mm. Is ball park accurate.

Well, if the measurements are from the original PropStore's plans (thanks Anders), I was of by 57mm. Not too bad Wink Very Happy Very Happy Wink
Maybe the power bar at the back of that pick could lead to confirm the size.
Plugs have not changed since.
