				|
 |
				| I got the idea looking at Rick's PKD variants. I wondered, what would a semi auto version of the blaster look like?
Working off a Colt .45 as the base for the gun, I ditched the laser sight attached to the side, as it would impede the slide stop when the last round is fired and the slide locks back. Also the slide action would throw off the sight alignment. Instead the LED unit forward of the trigger guard houses the laser aimpoint module and power cells, projecting the beam from underneath the barrel. The metal bar below the barrel is weighted and in addition to housing the laser sight, doubles as a recoil compensator. The magazine base is oversized and the magazine well is beveled to facilitate faster reloading. Magazine capacity is 7 rounds. There is a thumb safety mounted to the left side of the frame as well as a backstrap grip safety. The grips are wood and the whole weapon has been given a parkerized finish to prevent corrosion. I was originally going to add Hogue wraparound grips to the pistol, but I was too lazy to draw them.

				| Great design and draw up!!! I like how you used the steyer upper design elements in this.
Though, it feels a little more Galactica at this point to me.

				| You know, Rick has inspired me too. I have a whole friggin line of blaster variants I want to publish my drawings of.
I like your "colt 1911" styled blaster and agree it has a serious galactica vibe. Mind you, the galactica gun was designed to mimic the lines of the BR blaster.

Thank you for sharing the work. I LOVE seeing this stuff.

I had no idea, though I can easily see it with the first season blasters.

I really wish I could draw!

				| Yeah, I forgot to be specific. The mini series and first season blasters, not the FN's they later used.

I think its the shape of the LED unit that is reminiscent of the Season 1 BSG blaster, also the color of the wood grips. Funny thing is until you mentioned it I didn't notice it lol.

				| If I had any idea how to go about it, I'd probably take a whack at it. as I don't know how I'd go about it, I'll leave that to someone with more skills. _________________

Here are a few variants. I didn't do a full repaint on these, just some color tweaking but you get the idea.

				| Cool designs Loyal! There's a thread at the RPF where a guy is concepting fantasy props. It's great to see people building his concepts into real props. Maybe someone here will take the challenge? | |

				| Hey Loyal, those are great renders!
I'd like to take a crack at that design, but it might be ever so slightly changed from the renders in order to maintain 'functional plausibility'.
But then again we're talking about sci fi guns here. I suppose it's all up to what people want from their blasters.

If anybody should be building 1911 style BR blasters, it's you.

				| I have no problem with Matt taking this from the drawing board into the real. All I ask is you hook me up with a copy when you get it done. PM me if you have any questions about the design on or any elements.
I admit the stainless is one of my favorites too, always have liked the look of stainless guns.
