So I am working on the tough task of assembling information on the Nostromo, from the internet, the ACM technical manual, and our discussions on prop summit about the ship. Here's a draft table of contents, based on another popular science fiction technical guide. There are gaps where I deleted some of the universe-specific stuff that doesn't crosswalk over to the ALIEN universe:

LOCKPORT CM-88B BISON M-Class star freighter

As you can see, it fleshes things out quite nicely and gives me a framework on which I can hang the great points from the plans and blueprints discussions, as well as things from the published works.

If you fancy this sort of exercise, I welcome any constructive inputs.

Cheers,

Darrell

One of Ron Cobb's sketches calls the manufacturer Lockheed. I suspect any changes after that were used to dodge legal issues. The opening title card calls it a 'commercial towing vehicle.' Cobb called it a "basic Lockheed CM 88B Bison transporter frame, modified and fitted with a Yutani T7A NLS stellar drive." He further says "The original Saturn J3000 engines have been replaced by 2 Rolls-Royce N66 Cyclone thrust tunnels with bi-polar vectoring for mid-line lift function. Each power plant developing 7,230,000 tons thrust, giving a high impulse total of 14,460,000 tons."

Conversely, this is from early concept art, before the exterior of the ship was finalized, so you may take it with a grain of salt.

Quite possible. Was referred to as 'Lockmart' in the Aliens: Tech Manual in the early '90s. Lockheed Martin = Lockheed + Martin = Lockmart

Quite right about the "Lockmart" reference. Not sure where I got "Lockport" from. I will be working up a Wiki site for this and will post more as it develops.
