Hi, all!
As you might know, I am a little obsessed with Peter Hyams' movie "Outland".
I've been toying with the idea of having a small run of Consolidate-Amalgamate beer cans produced. Unfortunately, all I had to go on were some blu-ray screenshots of Sgt. Montone handling the can, without much in the way of detail.
What I came up with so far is totally made up, of course, and also, there are several "creative licenses" which need further work.
I would really appreciate some feedback as to how I could improve the thing. Any ideas are welcome.
Cheers!

Good eye! I never caught that.
Did you check all the bar scenes for beer cans?
... Isn't alcohol content measured by volume? Here in the US it is....

Thanks for the hint!
In the bar they were using glasses, I think, but I must re-check.
As for alcohol content: frankly, I have no idea. It's just something I had cobbled together from different beer labels.
I will fix that when I know what kind of beer it is going to be.
I will put another year in there, too, sometime before 2100. And make the health and safety warnings more related to the miners' work. |

And you could make some reference to the League of Industrial Nations, if you wanted to...

Thanks for the ideas!
The logo I've used is roughly the same as the original design,
though, maybe, I need to tone down the colour a bit.
The League of Industrial Nations reference is something that I will certainly incorporate. I've done the logo and put it on the can as a start.
Also, I have changed the year to 2081.
This is the progress so far:
This is the logo in colour:
In case anyone finds the logo useful, here's a bigger file for your consideration:

Next, I will rephrase some of the health and safety warnings. I'll try to make them a bit nastier.
Cheers!
Update: I have reworked the PNG League logo file, since I have only now figured out how to make a transparent background. Yay!

Thanks!
If anyone is interested, I could adjust the label format (when it's finished) to different sizes for other countries.
Cheers! |

Finally...
I have corrected and changed several bits and pieces on the label. The only cans I found that can be customized are 250 ml or 8.45 oz., so I adjusted the label information accordingly.
Also, I've changed the health warnings to something I felt would be more in line with Con-Am's policy. It now reads:
"WARNING: (1) CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES IMPAIRS YOUR ABILITY TO USE MACHINERY, AND MAY CAUSE HEALTH PROBLEMS.
(2) CON-AM EMPLOYEES ARE OBLIGATED UNDER SECTION B2 OF THE STANDARD CONTRACT TO PROVIDE CAPABILITY TO FULFILL THEIR CONTRACTUAL DUTY. INFRINGEMENT OF SAID OBLIGATION WILL RESULT IN THE LOSS OF ENTITLEMENT TO ANY COMPENSATION IN CASE OF HEALTH PROBLEMS OR INJURY. ACT RESPONSIBLY.
(3) ACCORDING TO THE SURGEON GENERAL, WOMEN SHOULD NOT DRINK ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES DURING PREGNANCY BECAUSE OF THE RISK OF BIRTH DEFECTS."
Here's the label in its original size (which is 1710x1290), for your pleasure:

Again, in case there is interest, I'd be happy to adjust the label to any size desired; just drop me a note!
Cheers, all! |

Chiming in rather late. Been off world for a while and suffering from a bit of warplag . . .
Nice work. I love this stuff! Creating it and seeing other's work as well.
Being a fan of these films, I find the research as interesting as the creating at times. So little has been written on the earlier films. As you noted, getting these things accurate can be tricky with such limited source images and so many years since the films have been released. It can become an ongoing series of tweaks.
I've noted as well that - with the CON-AM logo in particular - the colors can shift and there may be differences depending on where the pieces were produced for a given film and what materials were involved. The CON-AM logo seems to change in colors and in their use or sequence within the logo. The patches don't seem to match the logo projected or signage on the walls, so it becomes a question of just what piece you want to duplicate.
As to the label - again, a late response - Nicely done! I think the challenge of filling in the blanks with your own text is the best part of creating these. if later you discover the actual wording, you can always update.
One observation. In looking at your photo reference, it looks like there are a couple of silver stripes running along the top edge as well as where you now have a black band separating the navy area from the white. Maybe(?) -

Thanks for the input!
I am currently looking for a small run of cans to be made. There are several companies which offer individual labeling.
Unfortunately, all of them only have those tiny 0.25-liter cans on offer, but c'est la vie, I guess.
Point is, the image would be printed onto transparent plastic foil and then pulled over the cans, so I think the metal stripes will be a nice byproduct.
I have to check my pattern to make sure that there are blank spaces where the metal is going to be.
Maybe, IF all goes well, I'll be able to post a photo of a can in a couple of days.
Cheers! |

Great piece of creative work.
If you do a run I'd be interested in buying one. |

2133 -
Who's to say that there were not varying sizes of the product at the Io location (or elsewhere in the 'OUTLAND' universe). No doubt the conglomerate had several other posts, and like Weyland Yutani, their logo was plastered on everything from coffee mugs to IDs and space gear.
Love to have a can myself.
