Hello everyone!

First, new member here. "Alien" and "Blade Runner" are permanent fixtures in my top 20, so glad for this forum!

I'm going to Wizard World in June here in Sacramento, and one of my costumes is going to be the ill-fated Samuel Brett. I already have the Nostromo crew hat, Hawaiian shirt, etc. (Will also get a plush ginger cat for Jonesy) However, the key is that I'm building a replica of the motion tracker used in the first movie, and I'd like all the help I can get!

I have the Panasonic Ranger 505 for the body, so that's done. But if anyone could give me a comprehensive (or close) list of parts, I'd appreciate it! I'd also like advice on what to do for sound, like if there are devices to give sound to props I could use.

Thanks,
Marshall

Hey, Marshall!

There is one very detailed thread about this over at the RPF.

http://www.therpf.com/f9/alien-1979-motion-tracker-questions-3492/?highlight=alien+motion+tracker

I hope you'll find this helpful, and I'm very much looking forward to the build!

Cheers,

Jens

Update:

As far as electronics are concerned, there is a manufacturer of sound and lighting boards that are used in greeting cards. The items they offer can be found on ebay, e.g. this one:

http://www.ebay.de/itm/230761780701?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I copied the link from my German ebay page. I hope it shows up in English.

There is a very nice tutorial on how to work with these on Youtube, by XRobot's James Bruton:

Thank you all very much! I've started perusing those threads, and they are a help. But if anyone here knows all (or some/most) of the other parts needed, including really obscure ones and how to go about getting them, feel free to post here and let me know! I'll also try to contact people on that thread, or maybe even register at PRF and bump it.

I just went through the Pics on the Alien Tracker thread again. That is a REALLY demanding project you picked there.

Wish you can come as close as possible to what you have in mind!

Cheers,

Jens

And yeah, it IS demanding. I think I'm just going to shoot for a fairly rudimentary one for June, and work on it over the years for a more "ultimate" finished product, maybe for a cosplay when the Blomkamp film comes out. Smile
