Many Thanks Joberg-- I have enclosed three photos, One shows my Doorway entrance to the Garage Bay from the C' Level corridor--you half expect Brett to come walking thru!! the other is a B/W shot of Ripley, Parker & Brett just outside the Garage Bay entrance in the C' Level corridor. Whats interesting about this shot besides the wealth of detail is in the distance behind them you can see the rear of the actors from a mirror fitted in the corridor set for that long corridor illusion, and a wall panel has been fitted over the equipment Room entrance as seen behind Brett. the third photo shows the same junction area as seen previously the entrance doorway to the Equipment room, this area is what i am working on now, i will make the ladderway portable as it was moved about during filming. when the crew detect the cat in the Equipment room the ladderway is in the corridor, later when Brett is sent off to get the cat, we see Brett walk toward the Garage Bay and the ladderway has been moved into the Equipment room as Brett crosses the corridorway and into the Garage Bay. the next time we see this junction Lambert & Parker with the trolley head from the Garage Bay across the corridor and into the Equipment room--the ladderway has been dispensed with. Now that the vehicles have been finished off i can go ahead and work on the wall panels of the Garage Bay and section of C' Corridor with gusto!!

Lol!! Damn those paint tubes!
Here is the latest update, I have proceeded with finishing off the Garage Bay Wall Panel and now commenced on a short section of C' Level Corridor outside the Garage Bay, including a Ladderwell which is movable--which is ideal as i can use it in other Nostromo Corridor shots.

Picture of myself with Wall panel to show scale size of models..

A shot of the Ladderwell in situ, beyond is the Garage Bay....

Today i will work on this section of C' level Corridor, painting and weathering and ceiling panel and go from there!!
All the best

Loved the pic with you in it! Really shows the scale (and the small details, wiggets, greeblies you have to create).

Keep up the good work Cool

Hi Everyone--cheers Joburg--It's been a while since i last posted, but here's some shots taken of construction in progress of the C' Level Corridor outside the Garage Bay. It's taking time because i want the corridor to convey that cluttered confined look. the first shot is an overhead view of the Garage Bay, Corridor and Equipment Storage Room in relation to each other in the Shepperton Soundstage. The other shots show an experiment using a mirror for that "Forced Perspective" look in the corridor which is often used in cinematography:

It's been fun constructing this corridor and i hope will look great once i have finished. After the corridor is completed i will return to work on the Garage Bay itself. then finally the Equipment Storage Room for which i have drawn up the floorplan and deciding whenever to make it the "Ripley, Parker & Brett looking for the cat" scene or the "Parker & Lambert ambushed by The Alien" scene......will keep you all posted!

Looking very good; with the right lighting/smoke it could pass for some of the set piece Cool Mirrors are also used to "elongate" a corridor (works every time)

I second joberg's comment. Spooky how you've captured the perspectives, the proportions, the lines and dimensions... Great stuff!

Hi everyone--Many thanks guys appreciate your kindness, using the term "Smoke & Mirrors" is so appropriate with this corridor. in a full scale set it's easy to hide the camera when doing a "Mirror Shot" the opening sequence of 'Alien' when the camera stares down the C' Level Corridor and then slowly sweeps across making sure the ladderwell is nicely blocking off the mirrored reflection of the camera--in my much smaller tiny scale it's a tad trickier but i deliberately at each end of my corridor model put more wiring and junk around the bulkheads to hide my camera when taking a "Mirror Shot" ( Forced Perspective ).
Getting the floor angle right was important too, making sure it didn't have that "Veering off" upward slope, but it wasn't that difficult to set up, though for the truly "Never-Ending" corridor shot means putting a mirror at both ends was not quite possible due to the small scale size and not being able to fit a camera within the model too--but i am working on that!!
Smoke as Joburg said has to be added--i totally agree, cigarette smoke and adjusted shutter speed, but recently playing a soundtrack of the Nostromo's "Ambient" machinery rumbling really did the trick for me--the model corridor Almost seemed to come to life, it was awesome and this has given me the motivation to finish this section nice and proper, its amazing playing back the Ambient rumbling at fairly loud volume and studying the corridor, pity i cannot convey this across my photos, but by all means have a try!!
Best Wishes

Good stuff mate! It's so fun to play with your camera in trying to re-create the effects of the movie. In terms of "double mirrors"; you'll have to buy a 2 sided mirror (you know, in police interrogation rooms, you can see the suspect, but he/she cannot see you since that side is mirrored).

So place that 2 sided mirror in front of your camera, the other normal mirror at the end of your corridor and voila, you don't even have to places greeblies/ladder in front of it since you'll never see the camera hiding behind the 2 sided one. Wink

Hi everyone, Latest update--I have now turned to The Garage Bay Diorama where i am working on the remaining Door/wall panelling, first off is the panelling alongside the Tractor Unit and Survey Buggy, in the actual set the doors themselves were painted canvas ( to save time ) whilst the doors to the claw room had more detail and time spent as it would be closer to the camera, I didn't quite "canvas up" the doors in my diorama--having built the framework and holed in the sections for the "Machinery" detail which i added as a back-plate before painting in and weathering the detailing, I am still working on this panel currently adding the lighting grilling, some pipework and wiring. When that panel is completed i will return back to the C' Level Corridor and finish that off, giving me time to prepare for the "Claw Room" doorway panel and the long home straight to add in the ceiling support pillars, storage boxes, pressure suit lockers, helmets etc etc.
After the Garage Bay I will next focus on the nearby Equipment Storage Room for which i have studies many photographs and stills, where i have drawn up a "Linear Sketch" of the wall panelling and floor plans ( All Photos below...) With the longer daylight and warmer Spring weather approaching my sleeves are rolled up!!

Hi Folks, It's been quite some time since i last posted as i have been busy elsewhere away from 'Alien'. The Garage Bay is still slowly being finished off, but i want to focus on the "Equipment Storage Room", as part of that diorama i have been building minor details like storage boxes, gas bottles, console and Lambert's Bottle Cart, below are a couple of photos of my failrly recent exploits...

This shot shows some of the minor detailing lined up in the Garage Bay Diorama..

A shot of the trolley in C' Level Corridor between The Garage Bay and Equipment Storage Room...

Hopefully by this coming weekend i can start constructing the Equipment Storage Room floor and build up from there!
Many thanks for stopping by (y)

Hello again--M any Thanks guys for your input. I have angled away (again) from the Garage Bay and focused my attention to The Equipment Storage Room where Lambert and Parker get jumped by The Alien. I have started with the floor base unit which the room will be scaled from and making sure it matches the other rooms and corridors i have already built!! so far i have painted and weathered (silvered) the flooring and today i will commence building the Wall niches, panels and piping in the "1st Section" of the room, meanwhile i will continue to build more storage crates, Gas Bottles, Emergency Pressure Suits and the odd helmet.

Please find enclosed a couple of Equipment Storage Room test shots:

Outlaying the base unit alongside C' Level Corridor...

I will post up more shots once i commence the wall panelling and piping--watch this space (y)

Hello again, Here's the latest construction efforts in the Equipment Storage Room, i have been posting updates on my FB Nostromo Unplugged Page. the room has two chambers, the first one is virtually complete with only a few ceiling panels to fit, Ceiling panels are always tricky to build especially with a slight raised profile and angles to overcome.
The other chamber which has the lockers--one of which Jones the Cat was sprung out of by Parker, Brett and Ripley--is the next stage of construction, with this section i will make the wall panels and ceiling panel detachable for ease of access and photography.

A wide shot taken from C' Level Doorway shows the Storage Room stuffed full of bottles and boxes!
https://www.flickr.com/photos/88809084@N05/17629275612/in/dateposted-public/

This shot shows the ceiling panels with some yet to be fitted, Alternative panels have light slots built...
https://www.flickr.com/photos/88809084@N05/17443822068/in/dateposted-public/

I like this shot as it comes very close to the sinister atmosphere such rooms had down on C' Level...
https://www.flickr.com/photos/88809084@N05/17362188570/in/dateposted-public/

I am taking a few days rest from the builds, but need to stock up on more Cyanoacrylate glue, Mounting board and some more Acrylic paints too, my distant eye is still on the Garage Bay diorama where i really need to start on the cylindral support pillars and ceiling panel there...
Best Wishes
