For information, Charles Lippincott (advertising and publicity consultant on Alien) has already published on his FB about 30 pages of contact sheets from the set photographer of the movie : Bob Penn.
The full set has more than 160 pages and I hope that Mr Lippincott get them all
Very Happy

There's some wonderful background shots in the collection.
Wonder if he still has the negatives?

Actually, lets hope some of these images have made it into the archive book.

Amazing.

Unfortunately Colin the contact sheets didn't make it into the Alien Archives, this new book is even crappiest than the Alien Vault book, can you believe that ? (some photos displayed in its pages are blurry, I guess they originally were jpg images found on the web... oh well...)

Confused

If I had an advice it would be : Don't buy this one on Amazon, find one in a bookstore and see by yourself...

Fred, that's bad news.

I was really hoping this book would be good.

Do you have a copy already?

I will definitely wait to see it in store now.

What we need is a Bob Penn 'Alien' coffee table book.

I'd buy it.

Colin

Yes Colin, already bought it on Amazon...

Damn, I was so stupid to do so...

The part devoted to the first Alien film is the less interesting of the whole book... or maybe it's because I know this one very well but frankly, don't expect a lot of never before seen photos or artworks... and those texts and descriptions... for example they call Jean "Moebius" Giraud... Jean Girard !

Rolling Eyes

It's obvious that some images were directly scanned from older books...
Being a non-specialist of Aliens and Alien Resurrection, I thought the chapters devoted to these two are the best of the book...

Oh well, we're still imho very far from the kind of top notch work that's been delivered on some of the books devoted to Star Wars...

Maybe next time...

Fred

Bad news Fred Crying or Very sad and you're right, we're far from a behind-the-scene StarWars or now, 2001 A Space Odyssey. One is hoping to have it soon before all of those good people disappear!

I must admit I had my eye on the book at Amazon for a while, but held off. Then it got released and some reviews at AVPGalaxy were less than positive, which is a shame. It's disappointing to hear about the image quality.

Anyway - Bob Penn's photos look terrific. For fans of the movie this is pretty much holy grail stuff. An Alien - The Archive should be that - set blueprints, set photos, views of the cast, costumes, props. Interviews which as time goes on, may be a reprint of those conducted before.
One day maybe....

From his FB page,Charles Lippincott is talking about editing a book with all the contact sheets . He will need, of course, FOX approval and tries now to locate and contact Bob Penn's family.
