|
|
Hi all,
Got home earlier today from Star Wars Celebration VI in Orlando, FL.
What a great show! Lots of vendors and awesome stuff on display.
One booth had the prototypes for the Alien action figure line that was abandoned years ago.
They're going to be producing the whole set of 5 figures, and I thought maybe you guys would like to check 'em out!
(Forgive me. . . but I can't remember the name of the company who is doing these.)
The guy at the booth said they should be released sometime in 2013. Woo hoo! _________________ I find your lack of faith disturbing. . . |

I'm not into action figures anymore (too old, and I have kids now) but I would have loved to have these as a child !!!
Thanks for sharing !

Thanks Andy...yes, I new Hot Toys had produced the 1/6 suit -with -helmet figurines. What I was refering to were the prototype ones that were abandoned years ago: there seems to be no helmet covered ones in the collection |

Ahhh... I see now. The helmet does look missing in those photos. Kind of makes the figure almost pointless to me. The second set of photos are of the original 1979 prototypes. Still I have to admit I want them, but probably won't buy them.

SUPER 7 'REAction'/Kenner Figures
Before discovering this thread today, I stumbled across a online mention of these figures (original release date of 4/13).
On further investigation it looks like orders were taken beginning back at SD Comicon. Limited, their release date has now been moved to September.
BTW, the company producing these is "SUPER 7"(?) based on Kenner's 1979 prototypes, marketing them as "ReAction Figures". The Kane figure DOES seem to include his helmet, but accessories seem slim, common by 1980's standards:

If anyone knows a source for these, please post it. The SUPER 7 site says "SOLD OUT" and so far I've found no listings elsewhere . . .

No news and at $20 a piece, I believe that those aren't going to be popular with the " I - want - quality - for - nothing - crowd" |

They aren't cheap, and by today's standards, with the incredible likenesses of so many "action figures", they don't compare in quality, but I think Super 7 is targeting the nostalgic wallet, not the contemporary.

Thanks Dave for the update !
You might not be familiar with SUPER 7 but they're known among fans of Vinyl Art Toys enthusiasts as creators / editors of fine products.
Anyhow I think you're right, they're targeting customers interested in spending a few bucks to get allowed to take a trip down memory lane... but don't forget Art Toys fans, I think that line of Retro action figures is targeting them also.

Ah damn, I wasn't that interested in these toys a few months ago and then BINGO, I ordered one set... (and I must admit that I can't wait to get them now)
... and it looks like NECA is now planning a line of A L I E N figures for 2014 :

Excuse my delayed response, but thanks Fred.
I was unaware of the upcoming NECA figs. interesting how recent tie-ins are generating renewed interest and development from the toy industry (ALIEN, ROBOCOP, TV's BATMAN, to name a few).
NECA seems to do a reasonably good job with their figures - I picked up the "David 8" from PROMETHEUS at a recent convention . . . Who knows how long it will be before we actually see the figures from Hot Toys(?) But NECAs can be a bit on the fragile side, so beware! I saw a NECA Engineer figure at Toys'RUs recently whose arm was detached, although still sealed in its bubble packaging.
HOWEVER . . .
According to this (April) article, it may be too soon to hope for any further ALIEN-related figures. It seems NECA pulled their plans for further PROMETHEUS figs, due to a poor response to the second wave, so maybe a Holloway, but no Shaw or Fifield -
http://toynewsnetwork.blogspot.com/2013/04/toy-news-for-4232013-cancellations-16.html
I only hope HOT TOYS does not follow suit.

And now it seems the ALIEN figures from ReAction are being delayed until the very end of this year.
In space no one can hear me screaming . . . - R13 _________________ Gosh, you've really got some nice toys here . . . |

Yes, it's seems that they'll not cater to a "niche" (not enough to warrant a production ) |
