A while back I came into possession of a couple of the ERTL Spinners. However they came in less than mint condition. Both had the paint stripped off them, and the wheelcovers had been removed from the top of the frame and glued on in the 'in flight' position. Not sure what they've been glued with, but its solid. Some kind of metal weld stuff if I had to guess, they wont budge, even with some pliers, and I don't feel confident in forcing it.

I decided to remove the bottom and the canopy, and finish stripping the paint, and repainting them. After painting I cooked up some graphics in Illustrator and printed them out to scale on label paper, and then cut them out and applied them.

Not 100% screen accurate, but in much better shape than when I first got them. The second Spinner didn't have the police lights, and I'm guessing its the 'Deckard Spinner' from the set. Its in worse condition than this one as the metal's cracked in one spot, the wheel covers are roughly cut off, and theres some damage to the door panel on one side. Not sure if I can salvage that one. Here's the refurbished one for now:

*drools*

Now THAT is nice. I'd like to get my hands on some ERTL spinners if it weren't for the fact that the ones I've found on Ebay are pretty expensive.

Nice work with the paint job and labels!

Standard Matchbox-size vehicles Amish....

of course I can't see the images here at work so I'm not 100% sure if these are actually the ERTL ones or not Wink.... BUT the ERTL vehicles were standard Matchbox size.....

Yeah they're just a tiny bit longer than a matchbox car, and that's probably due to the design of the Spinner itself.

Heres a few more pics of it:

Scale comparison

This is on the underside of the Spinner.

Great Idea! looks very cool, and if I had some bad condition cars I would like to do something similar. They are actually better models than some of the small Japanese kits. The worse part is the axle between the front wheel pods. I can also honestly say I have never seen anybody do this before. Very nice job. Very Happy
