A SLA print that needs cleanup, a few details, and paint.

Guy is showing one he made, but people are hoping to see one from somewhere else? You guys have better manners than that (or at least one of you) Razz

I think it looks pretty cool myself. I also would not have guessed the size next to the pen in the photo. Would love to see it painted up. I do like how sculptural it is with all the detail relief in one color too though.

If not though Shapeway (you don't have to disclose the company), how did you find the finish and did you have to sand the piece?

I don't mind saying offhand but they are not set up like Shapeways, they are oriented more for companies. The quality is faaar better than Shapeways but the cost is more. You can expect to spend about $700 for a pistol sized item.

Quality is good and even on the finest resolution I've seen through them or any other company sanding is required(in my opinion).

Thanks for the reply SLK...so it's some kind of plastic I gather (not a powder)...the sanding is always a plus, but it seems from what I heard, that it depends how the object is printed (horizontaly or verticaly) one have more of a "wood grain" finish, while the other is simply lines layered in a horizontal fashion...I think?

Correct. Not many use powder anymore. The powder makes parts that look like a sandcastle.

Sometimes it's clear enough that you only need to wet or dry sandblast it.

Shapeways will load files in any direction. I had them make a Trek communicator where the build lines came out diagonally. I think they do it to fit as many as possible on a build. If you have something looking like wood grain then maybe it is a low res build. I've seen some where you have to strain your eyes to see the lines. There are different resins that will give different results as well.

You may want to do a youtube search for stereolithography.

Primered.

As long as you like that...

It's not Blade Runner but the master pattern was something I drew file for and made a mold on and here is a finished/assembled piece.

Other non BR examples I drew, assembled, painted.

ST6 boatswain whistle. Decals by Bhuddahaid.

Very nice work SLK...saw the gun on the RPF if I'm not mistaken. The future is already here in terms of 3_D printing, now it's up to the manufacturers to make it really affordable for us mortals:-)

Are you planning on making the Kab into a kit?
I would love to get one for my collection.

I offered it here on this site before on an interest thread and nobody wanted one. So to answer your question, "no" unfortunately.

That is to bad, it is a great looking piece. If you ever decide to do a run, or have a spare prototype, I would be interested.

I'd get one made and make castings to offer but it's not worth the effort since not enough here wanted one.

Here's a smaller one at Shapeways made in one part so if anyone really wants one they can have it made.
