Well, now with the sequel to Prom. called Paradise, we'll stay into the Mythical and Biblical for sure. We were not supposed to know what the Tree of Knowledge was all about and here we are trying to build androids like the Engineers did once with us No wonder David lost his head |

Knowledge begets power begets arrogance.
As Holloway responded to DAVID 8 - we built you because we could - implying that no further thought preceded mankind's action, or was necessary. Hence David's reply.
Putting the mytho/biblical aside, historical precedent dictates - The further we advance as a species, the wider the gap between technical knowledge and common sense becomes. Progress seems seldom defined in terms of reason, but rather rationale.

Halloway answered David the way he did because he didn't have a real answer. I thought that scene was pretty well done. Halloway has no idea why mankind made androids. "Because we could" is a cheap answer an adult gives a child. Halloway was written to be proud, cocky, and arrogant instead of smart.
The entire mission failed because of him. He ordered the ship to land by the domes without further exploration of the planet. The first excursion was rushed out, and rushed back, because he had to "open his presents" without benefit of safety procedures. He infected Shaw, cost 16 other people their lives, and inadvertently created an entirely new species that may well overtake several facilities full of genetic black catalyst that creates bio weapons.
Just imagine if the "deacon" creature somehow retains genetic memory of the engineers and can fly one of those ships.

We obviously had 3 major players: Weland wanting eternal life, Halloway wanting to see/study the Engineers and finally David putting Weland's plan into place with unkwnown consequences following said plan.
All of this without a care for the crew (even Weland's own daughter is expendable)...no wonder Weland/Yutani main Mu-th-er computer had the same regard for the crew of the Nostromo Greed will destroy us all! |

So....apparently there were two versions of the Fifield vs. the Prometheus crew in the Garage scene; one which we saw in the movie using a 'real-life' Fifield, with Sean Harris covered in a considerable amount of prosthetics and make-up, and the other version which had the whole scene created with a CGI representation of Fifield, which made him look like he's turning into everyones favorite xenomorph.
I'm intrigued by this new cgi version. It looks nice and hideous. How him turning into an Alien fits in with the overall scheme of things I don't know....
Contact with Egg > Face Hugger > Alien Created via Host
Contact with Urn > Black Goo Stuff > Host mutates into Alien
I think I like it too because it reminds me of the Brett turning into an egg scene....it kind of turns the whole 'only way to create the Alien is via facehugger' idea on it's head, just like how in Aliens (1986) before the Alien Directors Cut (2003) was released, the only way eggs were around was because of the Queen Alien.
There's alot to the whole Alien DNA in these movies we don't and may not know.

"Deckard is a replicant."
Hence the total flip out and rightly so. |

I know I may be in the minority, but I'm glad they didn't use that creature for the scene where Fifield returns to the ship. I like the makeup they used on the actor a little more than that design. _________________ I don't have enough blasters! |

While it was/is interesting to see the evolution of the effects for Fifield, I must agree. It would have been rather expected, and a bit over the top, IMO.
I'll take make up and a good prosthetic over CGI just about every time (as long as it doesn't look like a guy in a monster suit).
