Won't see it in Ottawa for another week Evil or Very Mad Since Fred will maybe be the one to see it first, we'll have a shot by shot review (without spoilers) afterwards Wink

Yeah, I'm going into lockdown mode until it opens in the states. I have been wide open to spoilers so far but I always avoid reviews of a film until after I see it.

I know. I know. Strange.

Jealous! Hope you have a great time! Smile

I've just been listening to the Prometheus OST and one of the tracks is a re-done version of the Alien Main Theme, with slightly different instruments. This has piqued my interest even further.

Saw it tonight... Oh man, this film is really bad, don't go see it guys... A waste of time and money... (and I don't talk about the last "Alien" sequence, they did something almost as bad as the new born in Alien Resurrection !)

ummmm... just wikipedia'd the plot... not happy... at all. BUT the reviews all say it LOOKS wonderful, and as a graphic designer, i will go simply to appreciate it from a design standpoint. I have to remember it took YEARS for me to like the Original Alien film, so who knows... Rolling Eyes

Alas no mate...

The only GREAT thing in it is David. Fassbender delivers an amazing performance !
Same thing could apply to Charlize Theron but David really stands above the others. Also loved Idris Elba's character but you only see him 5 minutes in the whole film...
Worst moment : The sequence where "Dumb & Dumber" are lost in the pyramid. (You'll know what I mean when you see the film)

I'll end this post by saying that the marketing campaign spoiled almost every aspect of the film it was supposed to sell us...

Again, good luck to the ones who are going to see it, I mean it.

Fred

That is why I have been reserving any enthusiasm for this film. I still plan on seeing it though. None of the press made me think this was anything special though, and I always have a problem with films that try to go too big. Scale is something that usually remains constant in a film as part of the POV. One of the reasons I loved BR is that the large scale story is only hinted at, allowing you to go there with your own imagination.

Wow...bummed. I guess you really can't go home again.

On the other hand, one man's trash is another man's treasure. I'm willing to see it and make my own assessment. It's art after all and that means it's open to interpretation. Good luck to all on opening night in the states.

Of course Panaflex, go see it and make your own opinion ! (I was just expressing mine here...)

JB, It looks like some people actually enjoyed it ! I didn't. I don't like to be treated as an idiot, this to explain why I hated it...

In other words, and to explain further my great disappointment, I would say that :

A L I E N was the dark side of 2001 : A Space odyssey
PROMETHEUS is the dark side of AVATAR

Saw the Preview last night and have to say that for me it was not to bad at all, please go see it with a completly open mind. Do not think of "Alien or Ridley.
No one, not even professional critics should say don't see it because we all see things in different ways. I feel i could coment on some aspects but don't want to spoil anything for anybody else. No doubt over the coming days our thoughts will come to light. Mr Fassbender was brilliant.

Maybe someone could open a different thread with spoilers in Prometheus?
I will go and see it also and try not to think of it as Alien (difficult to go with an "open mind" since my "training" doesn't permit me to see a movie like anybody else... Crying or Very sad I'm sure quite a good number of members here know what I'm talking about).
