Had this arrive today
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alien-Vault-Definitive-Story-Behind/dp/1845136675/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1315505508&sr=8-1
I've only had a quick scan through but already noticed that they've used the Cameron 'Weyland Yutani' logo on the inside cover (a personal gripe of mine, seeing as this book is supposed to just focus on Alien).
But far, FAR worse than this is on the sticker included inside the book which is a repro of the Nostromo Crew patch.....instead of reading 'USCSS Nostromo', it reads 'USCS Nostromo'.
This is unacceptable and the people responsible should be locked in an airlock lol
More inaccuracies as they come in |

As far as I'm concerned, we should go back to the days of public shame for these kinds of stupid mistakes ...obviously not the "Definite Alien" if they pull these kinds of errors |

Here it is in all it's shameful glory. Adding the 'S' might have evened up the lopsided text positioning too lol

And inexcusable since I figured all this out long ago.

Well, still early days yet but so far....
1) Each chapter's first page has its own (Cobb I believe) signage logo - always been a fan of these so very cool IMHO
2) The inserts are pretty nice on the whole. All in all they are - A couple of "Ridleygrams" (Storyboards drawn by Scott and repro'd here)....A certain sheet of blueprints by a certain person on the forums ....a schematic of the Autodoc Room....two fold out posterettes of Giger designs for the hugger and the jockey....the patch sticker above....a repro script page with repro polaroids....a mini poster of the movie (early)....a mini japanese movie poster.
3) A nice Appendix featuring details on the crew, in order of death, and the differences in death scene list between theatrical and Directors cut versions =]
You know what, I guess between us we've seen most of the photos in here at some point or another (there are a LOT in here though), but there's tons of reading in here....sure most of it will be old news to us but you never know when a nugget will pop up.
I must say the quality is great overall though - real heavy book that comes in it's own THICK sleeve to protect it. I just can't understand how they fluffed the badge |

Yeah, I have to admit I did use Weyland Yutani on the blueprints. The reason for this is that when I was asked about including the blueprint, the blurays just came out, and on the menus (ALIEN included) the big Aliens 'W' is everywhere with Weyland-Yutani.
I did notice the Aliens style 'W' logo on the inside covers with Weylan-Yutani. Seems like a no-win situation! One wonders what it'll be in the prequel.
I received an advance copy two weeks ago from the publisher who very kindly sent it for free. I really enjoyed looking at the book, the text is excellent. Certainly worth getting. |

My god that patch is dreadful!........looks like it was made from "fuzzy felt".
Weyland Yutani in a book devoted to Alien?...heresy!
In Prometheus there is a logo visible on the side of a surface vehicle, it looks like a red coloured amalgamation of the Yutani wings, and the simplified WY from Alien's?

Yeah little problem with that.
Mine had a good portion of pages in French! LOL
It also got beat up a bit as Amazon did not pack it in anything protected.
So started the replacement process, hope the new one is all english. |

Got my book this weekend.
Overall Im very impressed...LOTS OF PICS & INFO!
I do have one complaint. I am missing one packet of fold out posters..the ones I want the most, the interior and blueprint pack. In their place I got another face hugger and Space Jokey.
Awesome other than that. |

Brownclaw, & all: thanks for the reviews, and caveats! Hmm maybe I'll wait for the "Second Revised edition"... _________________ Replicants are like any other machine...they're either a benefit, or a hazard. If they're a benefit it's not my problem. |

ALIEN Vault is a Great birthday present...the wife indulged me with this treasure. Sorry some of you guys didn't get the right stuff, but mine looks as advertised, including those oh-so-professional Nostromo blueprints...and the Leviathan internal configs as well!!! Looking forward to spending a good day or so poring over the stuff inside.
Worth the $$$. If you don't get what they advertised, send it back and demand it!!!! |

Fen, can you confirm whether your sticker was correctly printed or not?
Thanks! |

My sticker was printed the same way, I do kind of wonder if it was supposed to be based Ron Cobb's concept art more than the final patches?
The book is pretty sweet all in all. Worth the money, and the small posters are pretty frameable, as is a lot of the inserts. You get a lot for your money, and one little blip is no big deal.

Got the book a few days ago...
I enjoyed it, despite errors here and there (the infamous sticker, credits sometimes not given to the right persons, these kind of things), lack of new material (not enough new photos, script scans). Some of the inserts really suck (Nostromo patch again, the "concept infirmary" layout, didn't they had access to more interesting material like production used blueprints or continuity photos ???).
To resume my feeling, I'd say it's a good complement to The Book of Alien, nothing more, nothing less.
Fred
PS : This is my 1979th post, it HAD to be devoted to A L I E N !
