That makes a lot of sense - it's definitely filmed from a monitor rather than cel animated, and I imagine a 'scope lens would have great difficulty resolving a sharp image at that range. They probably just shot with a rostrum-type lens and then lumped the resultant 4x3 (or 1:1.85) footage in with the anamorphic stuff in the edit, hence the distortion.
Thing is, I've come to prefer the stretched version - shame there's not an off-the-peg equivalent! |
