They are also pretty common if you are willing to buy a dispenser along with glasses that have other color bands instead of the correct blue.
Occassionally one can nail glasses in sets without the extraneous. |
I believe the difference in colors is based upon the amount of fading in the colors because of light exposure...that is what I seem to have found. |
I think he means buying a dispenser and not having the extraneous red and green glasses that aren't BR related. Not that the blue is just a different shade.
If I remeber correctly it was probably about three years ago that someone started trying to copy the shotglass and mad a a metal ring of blue tape or other material. The screencaps were pretty cruddy at the time. Then later on in the same thread someone posted the correct shotglass. Soon after the entire set was discovered and the purpose of the plastic band was uncovered!
That stuff was a long, long time ago. Ahhh, memories.

got it...I often post late at night and sleep deprived so I reread the next day and realize what an idiot I sound like. As far as the RPF stuff it is almost all new for me since I found the RPF about 6 months ago I searched all the old stuff and got the information for the first time. Some of the stuff I thought I figured out myself was posted there years ago. Many newbies don't seem to ever go back and reread old threads because I still get questions about the shotglasses. Oh well |

I came back here to correct / edit my post about the rocks glasses. I was thinking this morning that I had heard they were not replicas and were made overseas.
Also There are variations in the blue band shot glasses. Wheteher UV was involved or simply diferent runs, who knows? I was actually referring to the red andd green banded shots which are included in sets with the blue. basically when one buys a set of 6, one ends up with four "inaccurate" Deckard Shots. |

Rick,
Sorry I must have missed your comment before, but had to reply anyway.
Just because we couldn't see the other colors or the dispensers in the movie doesn't mean they weren't there. More than likely the prop handler had the entire set in there somewhere. Even if they weren't in there they would fit in just fine. Kind of like them showing the ace of spades in a movie, you could logically assume the rest of the deck exists in that movie's universe as well.

They had no holder and were just included in an auction for the shot glass dispenser. |

In looking at the 'faded' rings on the glasses in BR you have to remember that everything that was seen in BR had its color shifted a bit.
The highball glasses pictured are the correct color for the shot glasses too.
To prove this, look at pics of both the gun and Sebastian's jacket.
Remember how everything looked drab and green outside...even the gun?
If you see the jacket, even years later, it is a bright Yellow!
Deckard's apartment wasn't lit much better. When I first found one of the shotglasses I wondered how I could darken it! Then I started seeing more and more of the sets. It took a while but I understood.
BTW, when the glasses went unidentified, there were copies produced for a while. The few I saw were glass clear but not glass fragile.
And the real glasses are pretty cheap now but they were selling for about $5 each right after the DC came out...even without the bands! |

Just got this on E-Bay...VERY pleased and not at all interested in the decanter...I was after that full set of shot-glasses! Total was a little under $20 bucks!

I scored this set about two weeks ago.
It's actually my second dispenser/shot glass set (I also won three loose shot glasses in a separate auction the same day), but the first did not have the globe portion (it's like the one Andy shows above, but without the glass tray base). Now, I just need to put up a bar in our Florida room so that I can display them (that's one of the great things about the BR set pieces and props, they can be displayed as props and as great home decor). _________________ Pete |

Pete,
I so love that chrome globe set that I have bid on more of them. It is a beautiful piece in itself and like you said fits in any tasteful decor. Great Score!

I just noticed that Jedirick just put up four dispenser sets on eBay, and they are all missing the Blue ring shot glasses. Only Green and Red. LOL Only BR fans and propcollectors would even know why. Very funny. |

That is funny. I actually spent last weekend (and will probably add most of next weekend, too) building a bar so that I'll have a place to display mine. _________________ Pete |
