I could see him with a flashy custom blaster, absolutely. he doesn't seem the type to carry a heavily weathered piece. The "ruby red" grip idea is really interesting. The old "Jupiter" blasters had red grips. When I get home I'll post some pics of those.
You know, it may even match his cane, do we have any good pictures of his cane?? _________________ I don't have enough blasters! |

The grips are not as red as I thought. |

Here are the pics of the Jupiter blaster that I have.
I don't know the owner of this first one, but if it's a member and you want it removed, lemme know.
Now then, because I have oodles of free time (and I felt like sherking my work for hire photoshopping for a little bit) I cameup with this:
Now, I'm about half happy with the grips, and this isn't really the "high chrome" or reflective chrome/stainless/nickel plated - I think Gaff would carry. But it's what I have for now
It's my own blaster which is in parts, I photoshopped them together, heavily altered a picture of the grip I took, and ended somewhere I think that is a good START.
Needs a grip coin, maybe some custom engraving.
Guys, THOUGHTS?

Hey guys. Feeling pretty aweful today, but I threw together a few more ideas.
Besides the ruby grips, and some engraving, I wanted to see what the snubby would look like with glossy wood grips with a nice stark, deep grain in them. Kind of like the wood used in Minority Report for the balls.
I'm going to texture in some better engraving than this.
Anyway, more pics:
Probably the last of these I will do. _________________ I don't have enough blasters! |

Once I get it to a presentation level, I will debut here. It's still in many parts. After I finish the PKD-I '97 Re-Issue, which will be soon, I will devote more time to finishing Gaff's gun. I'm a little on the slow side. I hope the wait will be worth it.

I really dig the woodgrain grips, maybe I'll have to get to work on a pair. _________________ Wait; I'm having one of those things! You know; a headache with pictures? |

Just watched BR last night and paid attention to Gaff's cane - it's dark wood, possibly a mahogany finish, with a simple brass "branch" (derby?) head, similar to this one in silver, but unadorned.
Just plain brass, no engraving or detail. You can clearly see it when Gaff raps the head on Deckard's shoulder, as Deckard is buying liquor after retiring Zorah.
I can't get a screen cap, but that's the scene if someone else can do it. |

Gaff's cane is a pretty common one. I like the variation better for sure. I have been collecting hats that remind me of Gaff's. He wears a few throughout the movie I have yet to find any exact matches. I would guess he might have a collection of canes as he did hats, bow ties, and vests. I dig his style, not sure if I can pull it off though.
I especially like the cylinder cover tooling on the #2 and #3 guns. Nice job with the comps Noeland. |

Hmm mahogany.....that might be a nice wood for the grips too.I'm kind of surprised his cane is so plain, though as you said he may well have others. What about a brass like finish on his pistol?I bet he changes grips like he changes canes... |

It might make sense that Gaff would have a stylish cane or weapon, but realistically in making the film, his blaster would have been the standard black/steel/amber configuration just like the others. |

don't forget ebony, which is way darker than mahogany (almost black, virtually with no pores) and way harder. which could be a better choice to build a cane |

Sure, Gaff is a little eccentric, but he's not gay... the ruby red grips are a little much, in my opinion. I think his blaster would be well taken care of, but not flamboyant at all. |
