Those Ashley wood characters are awesome...very detailed! I imagine you have an awesome collection!

Glass would be a great Idea, after all it is detailed all the way around.. I even detailed the spot on the ship they left blank on the original!

I got a very sad story From Bob Burns last night, I will have to P.M. you with it.....

Bob is ok, he is just a bit angry (rightly so) about what happened with the derelict... it had a long, sordid and rough history.

The story began in 1979 when a truck delivering it to his house California was unloading it, and the fork lift driver was offloading it and dropped it, breaking the hammerhead side.... so sad...

Then is sat out in back for a few years before it was reused in 'aliens"

Cameron was going to do some scene where a guy goes into the derelict and finds the eggs, but the whole scene did not work, and it was cut from the film. The actual huge Space jockey was torched by some religious fanatics at the Egyptian theater while on display during the films premier, So cameron cold not do the scene with someone walking by the space jockey like in the first film, so he made up another variation where he went into the broken tail boom of the ship to discover the eggs. Some scenes used the broken derelict, and some scenes Bob constructed a larger section of the ship where this guy would walk into..

anyway, after it sat for years, all the roma clay washed off...a couple of people approached him about restoring it but it was too far gone , and then a few years ago a guy basically pulled a fraud on Bob, Told him he would restore it if Bob let him take it to his shop, and then the guy disappeared.

It then became known to Bob of an auction where it sold for $47,200.00, as you can imagine He is pretty angry about the whole sad, sordid affair.

The guy and possibly the Derelict is somewhere on the east coast.

so basically it is stolen, and I am sure the person or people who have are fully aware of this fact.

I am glad you like it JB! This one went to French Polynesia.. Fans everywhere!

This has been a fun project, and I have many more projects I am working on, finishing another Nostromo, a large Nautilus, and a huge dereilct one-off... so as you can imagine, things are going crazy down in my part of the world. I will be doing only about 4 more of these derelicts (6 have been made) and then I will put the molds away while they are still fresh, so if anyone still wants one, let me me know soon..

EXCELLENT WORK JT !

I just read all the previous posts and the photos of the finished model look really impressive ! (the "Smurf" paint did a strange impression on me the first time I saw it but, well... it matches the screenused model, so it's OK)

Can't wait to get my little greedy hands on mine !

Thanks Fred!

Your model is almost done and painted.. I am juggling it and a Nostromo now I only have to paint the base. ( as you can imagine.. I am living and breathing model kits ha ha ha!!!!)

The color is hard to describe, it does not really come out in the pictures correctly. There is the metallic base coat, but when viewed in normal light it is a smooth rusty color, with hints of the "chameleon" base showing through....which you can see when you take it out in sunlight. I realized why everyone was painting it brown on other kits.....it does show up on film as kind of corroded color, But I think they dressed it up prior to filming... I had a chance to talk to Jon Sorenson about it..and he is very familiar with the size, exact dimensions...etc...
I think many people have painted it straight brown because they used reference pics when Peter Voysey was still finishing the brown clay before painting and weathering. Bassnoir and Lanboy maybe able to describe t better than I can...

The blues really surprised me too! It's amazing what shows up on film.

I could see how people would want it both ways with there personal model. Do you want what the model maker built or do want what your mind's eye sees while watching the movie.

The brown color is also fits in with the general Giger vibe.

excellent observation.. I agree.

I used a crazy process of getting the brownish "corrosion" color over the derelict which involved layers of burnt umber acrylic paint and spray bottles full of rubbing alcohol.. I know it sounds weird.. but it is effective.

I love the newer looking derelict in the metallic copper color Robert did.. great imagination!

I agree JB!

This has been an interesting model, 9 have shipped out to Canada, The U.S. Tahiti... The guy who is airbrushing them takes individual requests for paint-ups and does them according to individual tastes.

I pretty much paint them up like the movie version, but it is soooo
cool seeing these different and beautiful color schemes.

I sell them for 340$ plus 25$ shipping in the states, but I have had several people tell me they should go for 450$-500 per kit.

This model as been quite a hit! I still need to make myself one!!!!!!

Would you be willing to trade for airbrush artwork? My friend Bill might be interested in one if he can trade for it. Here is his art...

Jason, first off all, welcome and secondly, Mark has been silent for quite a while now. Studies I think...real life basically.
I don't think he can be reach I'm afraid. Unless someone wants to sell you their copy? You could always post into the PropShop.
