That is very close to the right number, only off by three digits...

I envy him that.

I really do not think so.

One: it would be very unlikely the film makers happened on two Stryes with numbers that close in the same shop or even with in LA, and these rifles were old when the film was made.

Two: we (I and many others) have not found any pictures within the film with out the correct numbers of differnt features of flaws.

				| Rich , information from the script and production notes say both Gaff and Bryant have/carried weapons , were they in fact hero props too and therfore more than one gun was made ?? or were they as is suspected , stunt props cast up & made from the original?? I only say this as taking into account normal film production as a whole they normally make several of the 'hero's prop simply to facilitate filming sessions . It would be unique just to make one single 'hero' prop ,I'm not trying to be contientious or 'mudding' the waters , but IMHO and side association with film companies SPFX/prop makers , I would have thought they would have made at least two - hence the stories of a second 'missing' hero ??? |

I totaly agree that is normal, which is why we all kept looking for a second model.

But it seems with this film they only had the one hero and a few stunts.

Perhaps due to the problem of fimding another Strye Receiver and the total cost of all the machining.

I agree with Rich. There is no evidence at all another Hero was ever made. Everybody else used Stunts to carry in there holsters, and if needed could have used the one Hero for any close up shots. It is possible that the person that owns this gun may be trying to sell and therefore wants to get us to believe it is the "second Hero", but there is no evidence to support that at all, as a matter of fact the matching details make it even more fishy, because any possible second hero would like the first, be handcrafted and have many more variances, and unique details than what we are seeing here. It looks to have been finished to match Karl's Worldcon pictures, minus the weaver knob.

It is possible however that the Steyr clip is a screen used/made piece, because we know several of those had been made and had also gone up for auction on their own. Other parts made for the gun had also gone up for auction in the past too including grips, but they were pretty poor casts and pretty shrunken. It is a possibility that an owner of these parts may have commissioned the rest of the gun using authentic gun parts to finish. I know if I was in this situation I would want to do exactly that.

According to Gary Randall, lighting Gaffer there were 6 Stunt weapons in total. I am trying to find out if he knows if there was more than the Hero used for filming.

				Love this topic.

Is it possible Holden's was a hero?

IIRC, in one of the cuts he is almost ready to fire it.

Not the first, nor the last time a major production has only 1 or 2 hero props used during principal photography ( I know, bad strategy if the hero has mechanical/technical problems happening on a regular basis during shooting)...How many hero weapons in Alien? See what I mean? .

That gun could've been made by a number of people: a member of our own board, or one on the RPF, or a professional gunsmith/propmaker?

Who knows...I heard many times the "second hero prop theory" before, but as far as I'm concerned it's a dead horse-type-of-topic |

When Phil and I interviewed one of the propmasters, he said a guy named Joey did the gun smithing, but would not give us he full name.

We never could find anything more on him.

Someone even said he had died.

				| Yes , that's what I've heard to , my uncle worked on the film and his diaries I inherited on his death , they also mention other hero's but as its not entirely clear , could of course be referring to stunt copies , I'm sure we still be discussing this possibility for quite a while yet . |

Still looks like 5223 to me.

The line that we are thinking is the top of the 6 I think is the diaganal down line of the 3 |

I can not see how you can not see the curve of the back of the 6 vs the 3 in those two pictures.

OH no it was done here within the USA, remember the story how Ridley and one of the propmasters or producers went into a gun shop and found a Strye Upper receiver with out a barrel nor stock and how (I think) Ridley said this is our gun??

It was filmed here and I am very sure the props were done here, I have not heard of anything being done any where else.
