Well folks, Google has a new cell-phone and it's called the Nexus-1
(wondering what kind of movie these guys watched ).
U.S. sales in the coming years, don't know yet about other countries. |

Funny, replicants were the first thing I thought of when I heard the phone's name. PKD's estate isn't too happy about it though. _________________ Wait; I'm having one of those things! You know; a headache with pictures? |

I hear you Seth, and that's the first thought that popped into the mind of the PKD's familly as well...of course, now it's a matter of David versus Goliath...I'm afraid that Google will not change the name, and it'll give the PKD's familly enough publicity to sell quite a few books for people interested to investigate the "Nexus-6" part of this story: everybody wins |

I don't think Google will change it either.
Good publicity for the PKD estate and BR as well. |

I don't think the name falls under plagiarism, or trademark rules. Even copyright needs more than a common word combined with random number to have any control over it. They might be able to copyright Nexus 6 however (giving Google only 5 versions before they have to change it ). Motorola paid Lucasfilm for "Droid" because it was a made up word. Your right that the controversy has created some free press for both of them, and in the end they may just settle out of court and make a deal. Sounds like a win/win deal to me.

I was telling my wife Motorola should pay Lucas for using the word droid and she called me all kinds of crazy saying that it stems from the word 'android' which has been around forever. Looks like I was RIGHT! Whoot! |

The software the phone uses is called "Android". It's great when i think of all the people the must have thought Blade Runner as soon as the phone was seen, and to be one of those "in the know". _________________ More human than human |

The word is from the 17th century and supposedly was used in combination with numbers many years before PKD's novel. The word has always been a favorite of science fiction authors too.

–noun, plural nex⋅us⋅es, nex⋅us. 1. a means of connection; tie; link.
2. a connected series or group.
3. the core or center, as of a matter or situation.
4. Cell Biology. a specialized area of the cell membrane involved in intercellular communication and adhesion.

Funny thing is, that only fans of PKD and BR will get the reference, to most everybody else it is just a word and number.
The thing I have always liked about the word is that if you add the "T" from Tyrell into it, it becomes "Next Us"
