Here are some Blade Runner reviews i found in "Halliwells Film Guide, 10th Edition"

Enjoy...

Los Angeles, AD 2019, a license-to-kill policeman tracks down and destroys a group of itelligent robots who have hijacked a space shuttle and returned to earth.

Gloomy futuristic thriller, looking like a firework display seen through thick fog, and for all the tiring tricks and expense adding upto little more that an updated Phillip Marlow case.

The sets are indeed impressive, but they are no compensation for a narative so lame that is seems in need of a wheelchair - Tim Miline, MFB

A richly detailed and visually overwhelming trip to 2019 which sticks with you like a recurrent nightmare - Sunday Times

A massive assault on the senses which seems to have been launched from a madhouse equiped with all computerized mod cons - Daily Mail

Glitteringly and atmospherically designed; but ultimately mechanics win out over philosophizing - Sight and Sound

Reviews were definitely mixed when the film came out. I recall that I didn't care for it much myself. Shocked

Mostly I balked at the (to me) repellent, dystopian depiction of the future. And also Harrison Ford's phoned-in narration, which seemed inappropriate and giggle-inducing. Also I couldn't figure out what the hell the movie was supposed to be about. Laughing

Needless to say I have developed an appreciation for the film over repeated viewings.

First time i saw the movie i didn't really get it either.
It took me a couple of viewings to finally like it, and in the end, love it.

Very true Joberg.
I just thought that the review that Tim Miline wrote was pretty funny.

You weren't put here to get it Mister Burton!

I had no problem understanding the story.
But I grew up on Sci Fi and Monster movies, if you can understand some of the really bad ones from the 50's you can understand just about anything. Laughing

I was 13 when I saw it and wondered why she stayed with a guy who raped her? I still think the love scene if you even want to call it that is off putting.

I don't know if , in the story, you can call that scene"rape"or you can call it"programing".
Let me explain: I think the Replicant have 2 particular features; first: memory implants that makes them think they're humans (Tyrell's niece according to the story).
Second, a "blank slate memory" that permits them to acquire and retain new information. In that scene Deckard is simply programing Rachael to the new experience of love-making; remember his lines in the movie: Deckard: Kiss me
Rachael: Kiss me
Deckard: I want you
Rachael: I want you
New imput, that's all folks...
