I wonder....
You know those guys that fix cracks in windshields? Wonder if some of your bottles could be 'repaired'? |

I was thinking the exact same thing, for when mine arrives. I think they need to apply alot of pressure to force the substance into the crack. I would not want to risk breaking the bottle.
It would also depend on where the crack is, it would need to be on a flat surface and if they had an applicator small enough to fit the surface. The process uses a vacum pump to remove air before pumping in the resin. This might be a problem.
From memory the Windscreen guys get you to sign a form to say that if the screen breaks they are not responsible for it.
But it would be worth investigating. _________________ No! 4, 2 - 2, 4. |

It's been thought of guy's.
IF you could find someone to make you a suction device that would fit the outer corner or inner corner of the bottle (where the crack is) you might get some of that filler into the crack. Only real problem is, I have it on good confidence that it's a toxic chemical and would render any liquid or alcohol that's exposed to it toxic as well...for this reason you will be hard pressed to find anyone that will even consider doing it for you.
(trust me...I've asked)
Now you could go about looking for a non-toxic type of acryllic to perhaps drip inside the bottle...but again...I never found any that would leave the bottle usable, or anyone who would sell me any once they found out what I wanted to use it for. |

So my question is: Where are the molds?????? Im guessing that you had to pay to have it made. That makes it yours. Have you tried locating a us based glass company that would use your mold. Im only asking because Im so peeved I missed this. _________________ The other Karl! |

I made all those points to the Chinese AND had someone visit their factory in China to request the mold (which I paid for) in person. The idea was to have it transfered to a more versatile glass/bottle company that had long and ongoing relations with the US. I had tried and tried MANY companies in the US before going to China and NONE were even interested for any order under 10.000 units.
Not only did Meiyun Glass deny that the mold existed they went on to say,"A new mold will be created and ALL will be made right as soon as we recieve your order for 10,000 addittional units"...yeah, that's right.
My response? "You couldn't deliver on a simple order of 120 bottles, WHY IN HELL WOULD I ORDER ANOTHER 10,000?!!"
Their response? "Merry Christmas"

I guess that's one of the reasons that the OB JW BR Whiskey Bottle is such a rare piece.
For all the associated headaches, the breakage (reduction in the total run) only made them even that more rare.
Saw one of the full kits (bottle, t-shirt, shot glasses, etc.) go on Ebay for over $500 a while back.
Speaking of Christmas, ya think this thread will get to 100,000 hits before then? |

Whoa, sorry to hear that OB.
I hope you do get it back, maybe we should all send them an email or something?
Anything we can do? |

Yeah, 10,000 units...reminds me of my Ennis tile project So hard to bring companies on board: small run, special product for a special audience, etc.
Not a lot of profit to be made at the end for them. |

A lot of companies that weren't willing to do small runs before are more willing now that they might be sitting idle with the economy.

I had a great conversation tonight with a fellow who commented on the fact that I was standing near the bar and talking with another guy about bottles and their shapes and what not...
When I finished telling him the story of the BR Bottle, i.e- researching it, input from all of you here at the summit and finally having it made only to recieve the order with HALF the bottles broken, his response was this:
"Dude, that is FU*%ING EPIC!"
It got me thinking about another run of the bottle.
The ONLY thing that would hold it up at this point would be backing.
I am going to go ahead and shoot a letter off to the Italian Glass Company that I was originally speaking to before I went with the Chinese and see what they say.
Other than that I am completely OPEN to ANY connections with glass company's that you all might have, if any, please PM me with them as I would LOVE to keep any NEW Bottle Project within the US.
NO Promises at this point but how would you all feel about the possibility of another BETTER run of the BR Whiskey Bottle knowing that it will be better in quality but also require a larger money commitment on your part?
Let me know(and yeah, let's kick this thread over the 100,000 hit mark ) Thanks Oldzey!! |

I'd get one from the new run.
That's 9998 to go. _________________ "Your old titles mean nothing here... Captain!" |
