I humbly submit the name Fidanza. Which is Nostromo's real last name in Conrad's book. _________________

I just watched these and saw that a opossum had crawled inside and died. I wonder if that was sitting in Bob Burns backyard all this time. Crazy stuff.

He he, thanks Joberg !
(unfortunaltely, Superman's eyes will have to wear glasses from time to time very soon, that's what the ophthalmologist told me the other day...) (being 40+ isn't groovy after all)

Quick update on blueprints. I've gone into 'hermit mode' busily toiling away on these prints. Back is halfway done, underside is started, all other views are done.
Made amendments to the intakes as a couple were the wrong orientation, reduced the size of the feet to make them more true to the model. Expect a big update within the next couple of weeks. It's looking good.

Welcome bizbazboz! Noce to see you here!
I should introduce bizbazboz; he has a thread going on the Starship Modeler forum, and is interested in some blueprints to help him build a huge 6ft (think it was that size) model of the Nostromo, the same ambition as you JTP! |

Hello all, nice to be part of the gang
Not sure i'm brave enough to go for a 6 footer, (try fitting it into a 2up 2down terrace !!) but i would like to make it bigger than the Halcyon kit.
I've toyed with doing a diorama other than LV426, but the ship & that setting go together like cheese n' onion so i'm not gonna mess with it !!!
Maybe i could scratch another tug - freighter, similar to the Nostromo but visibly a variant docked at a landing platform.
There's a picture over on SCI FI meshes website of the Nostromo in this setting, i'm pretty sure the link's on here somewhere.
Anyway can't wait to see the finished schematics from Mr Jockey, but i've got to 'cos quality takes time |

Well, not too long at all to go now. Now I'm working on the final view (the underside), plus I amended the nacelle exhausts. I've never been 100% happy with them, and the angles and the interior detailing are such that one gets one view right, then you do another view then find out that nope, it ain't quite right after all, so I go back and adjust it again. And I still wasn't happy with it. The biggest problem is that on all the photographs I have there's a natural distortion created by perspective, so it was difficult to get the geometry correct.
So yesterday I really studied photos from Dennis and Jon, and I actually drew up the nacelle exhausts and interior detailing up in CAD exactly how the photos show, transferred it to Sketchup, then turned it into 3D. Then, I rotated it at the angle I wanted that matched photos and flattened that rotated 3d image back to a 2d CAD drawing and then I had perfect nacelle exhausts that matched and lined up on all views.
Then late yesterday afternoon I printed all the views I have and laid them on the carpet, and I kept looking and looking and them because they're really cool. If I say so myself. It's nice to see the finishing post in sight.
In the movie we see Dallas holding a blueprint of an airshaft layout...the border to that will be replicated on these blueprints (actually it looks like the same kind of paper too) and I'm going to think up a logo for the ICC (Interstellar Commerce Commission) as it'll have their stamp on them as well as Weylan Yutani. I know it's all talk at the moment but I'm really looking forward unveiling the finished thing and can't wait to show you guys. |
