I have heard oven cleaner works good on this, but I would test it on something first.

thats what my dad suggested works a treat! though there's a bit of manual scraping for some areas. _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. Let him worry about it" Harrison Ford |

here's something that drove me nuts! I used my dremel extension to engrave what I could of the serial and markings. the big spinning tool did not make the microscopic markings an easy task! you cant really see it in the pic but the eagle actually has his two legs holding the hammer and sickle, thats how insane it was
as for the serial on the bulldog frame I think I'll just use a printed transfere _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. Let him worry about it" Harrison Ford |

Do let us know exactly how on earth you did this! It looks very slick.

seriously that is f@#$ing incredible........
I was going to suggest having letterpress dies made from the same maker that did the spinner "emblems" for me, and hammering the pattern in.
p.s. yours is on the way. _________________ I just do eyes. |

We should just get one set of dies, and pass it around

nice one chew!
the letterpress would be ideal for this sort of thing. I was thinking of looking into something like that, though I'm just too impatient
the engravings took several attempts. I had to keep filling and sanding metal every time I screwed up. if anyone wants to attempt this you'll need some magnifying glasses and I'd advise using a proper engraving tool. I did get one which would have made this much easier, but it broke down on me after a few days.
I engraved the numbers first by drawing them in ink on the surface. I then did the symbols by printing off a scaled image and copying it directly. I had to basically file down a tool to a very sharp point to achieve the detail on the markings.
hindsight I should have done this all in one go as I underestimated my spacing and the symbols proved a bit of a tight fit.
if you do attempt this you will probably make mistakes and need to fill and sand areas with metal. take as long as you need for each number and symbol, dont do it all in one go.
here's a template guide, scaled to print size:

|
|
I started blueing some parts last night. had a nice shiney cleaned up receiver to start with, then as soon as the blue goes on it's all patchy! also this stuff dries to a matted finish and they advise that you use extra fine wirewool afterwards. though as soon as I rub it with the wool it gets scratched up and in eliminating the scratches, half the blueing is rubbed away!
also a few areas where I used solder appear alot lighter, so good job I stuck with the bullet metal for most of it. _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. Let him worry about it" Harrison Ford |

You have to use a Black leather dye to keep the Blue on. It helps make it stick to the blaster. But there may still be a few blotchy areas.
Others here have mentioned shoe polish - which I assume is similar to Leather dye - But I have not tried it myself.
ALso you can hit the whole thing with a Laquer clear to give it one more level of protection. |

cheers joberg
another hap-hazzard happened today. I picked up the receiver and the section under the bolt just fell off!!
I was always weary of this delicate area as it kept getting bent during my modifications and started to show faint cracks.
wasn't too bothered though as so much has gone wrong with this project I was kinda expecting something to delay me further
I stuck a metal rod between the two parts and melted and re-shaped the metal. though it meant I had to take all the blueing off as the area was sanded down. though I made a bit of a revelation in the process.
I thought the dremel brass brush would take off the blueing but it actually polished it up nicely. unfortunately it wore out, so need to get another tomorrow and do a proper test on the whole thing. _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. Let him worry about it" Harrison Ford |

I am not very good at illustrator but if someone could turn beastmasters image into vector graphics a letterpress die would be a sinch. One could even order a whole plate made with spinner emblems as well as barrel graphics!!! _________________ I just do eyes. |

I found that if I cleaned the polished parts with acetone and dried thoroughly it helped reduce the blotching.
Thanks for the template Ed. Would you say a 0.8mm engraving tool would do it? |

can you use nail polish remover as that has a fair amount of acetone?
I got a set of these diamond bur tools
the sharpest point one might do it, but my one was broke in transit so I filed off the broken bit down to an ultra fine point (just let it spin on a file)
the numbers would require the ultra fine tool to set then the next fine tip up from that for a bit of thickness.
though you should wait and see how chew gets on with the stamp. if it works out it should look about 10 times better _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. Let him worry about it" Harrison Ford |

Don't use nail polish remover, not only is it a lot more expensive than acetone, it usually has "conditioners" and other additives in it. I also would also suggest naptha or lighter fluid.
