|
|
A friend just sent me pictures of his gun and it turns out they are one of the more Infamous versions of the gun. Some people have nicknamed it the "Fugly Gun" because it took a Rick Ross PKD-2 and put the parts together in "unique" configuration with the barrel rotated, one of the bullitts molded on the side of the gun and the triggers outside of the gun within the trigger guard. It also seems to have been molded in one piece out of clear resin and then painted, leaving the grips clear.
Here are some pics showing the stickers that show that may have actually sold in stores with a UPC bar-code on them as well. Interestingly, the date on them says 97' but the PKD-2 came out in 2001. Maybe they were setting it up if they got sued by Rick that they could say they had the design before him, or more likely they used the date for his first PKD as reference.

I think "Cheesy" may be the best description of it. These may have sold originally for about $10-$20. I am going to try and get some more info on them.

I remember these. They'd pop up on almost every ebay search you'd run on 'blade runner blaster'. The reek of ripoff was all over those auctions. _________________

Years ago I bought one in an eBay auction along with one of the 12" "Android Hunter" figures. The auction pic wasn't the best, and it was when I was first getting into the hobby--needless to say, I was less than impressed
Right after I got it, I started stripping the paint off of it, but have never got around to doing anything else with it. _________________ - Brian (formerly ToothTech)

I keep hoping to pick one up cheap but the last few on ebay have sold for as much as a real PKD. In my book though, they are worth about as much as the plastic dollar store ones. More out of curiosity than coolness.

Yeah I''ve seen a few on Ebay. The triggers are the ugliest part but the yellowish grips are a close second. |

I bought one of these as my first or second ever prop purchase many years ago. This is how she looks today.
It came without a trigger guard or triggers, no bolt handle (like the images posted above) and was repainted. Someone had tried to cram in all manner of wires and LEDS into it. It sat for quite a while, then was a holster gun for the Br fan film we did.
Eventually I stripped it down and pulled out the wires. I filled it with resin, save the clip housing.
Then I tried to replace all the missing parts with ones I made myself from aluminum sheets.
This thing has been unfinished for a long time. _________________ I don't have enough blasters! |

I tried to contact the company and they still exist, but because I did not have a store front or a tax ID # they would not talk to be. Even more so when I described to them what I was looking for they basically hung up on me.

I wouldn't dismiss it at totally ugly...there's work to be done alright!
Maybe Rick Ross could clean it up? I'm sure it could be much better after that. |

It certainly has potential. Especially if it could be had for the original retail or wholesale price. The trigger guard and triggers could be cut off easily enough and then reattached more correctly. I single light source could also be made to illuminate the entire blaster, which could be cool. Most importantly a new paint job.
