grub screws on worldcon?

I cant get through to pinzerato at the moment he was going to send me the grub screw plugs for the sidkit, so I was wondering if anyone has found a good source for real grub screws in the ammo box?

Uh, what's a grub screw?

A set screw. The ones on the worldcon hero are slotted instead of allen head, which is only what most sources have.

I get all my button cap, socket cap, and set screws from ace hardware. They have a much better selection of them than lowes or home depot. At least here in Clarkston they do.

it seems you can only get the hex (alan key) grub screws. no one does slotted ones might have to actually try and make these.

Shouldn't be too hard to make--threaded rod cut to length and slotted.

I couldn't find anything that corresponded to any Sidkit bolt or screw from Ace Hardware.

What do we think... did both screws have washers originally?

How come the washer looks like copper, with a dab of solder on it (?) Could it have been used as an electrical contact somehow? To power the LEDs externally perhaps?

My first though was that they anchored the clip which no longer has the fastener to latch into in the back. The Idea of the gun being powered from an outside power source was almost certain to me before, but still only a theory. Also very likely was that they connected to the adjacent white wires to power the Green LEDs. I never spotted the solder before, so the idea of them being used to make an electrical connection in one way or another seems even more likely now.

To answer your question though, the fact that both screws are set out at the same distance, it makes sense that they both had the washer. They really don't seem to be used a a decorative greebly either.

Actually I answered my own question... you can see in the film itself that one screw has no washer!





Since the LEDs are on but not only are the white wires CUT already (in the wall shot), and the grub screws do not appear to have wires leading to them... I guess that blows away my "power through the grub screws"theory.

Unless the wires are nearly invisible....

That the 6/38 are way too large.

dam! that old screw shop has thousands of screws, just not the slotted grub screws

Karl: was that washer around the left screw plastic or metal?

btw, I just noticed those white wires are not in the gun drop shot.
