I do appreciate the suggestions but the label is now LOCKED.
No further changes will be made...suggestions at this point will be added to the list of things to do for the NEXT Whiskey Bottle Run...I should mention that I have NO plans to do one at this point! |

As I recall it wasn't a matter of estimating the bottle's capacity, it was based on study of what the prop's label seemed to be saying.

I wonder who the Queen will be when the "movie" bottle gets produced.
One would think that there'd be a King by then.
Unless Deck likes the vintage sauce.

Unless the "by appointment of her majesty the Queen" thing, refers to when the scotch was made, which, in 2019, would give 12-year-old scotch a production date of 2007; making the label correct.

Typically the date on the bottle of Scotch was when it was distilled and then casked, not when it's bottled. If you go back and take a look at the pic of the bottle of the Glenrothes I put up (on page 17) you'll see that the date on the bottle is 1992... it was bottled in 2006, so that means it aged in the cask for 14 years. Contrary to popular belief, it's the aging in the cask that matters, not in the bottle. I do feel that aging in the bottle does tend to 'mellow' a scotch or whisky a bit more over time, but all the flavors and aromas are pretty much picked up while it is maturing in the cask...
So Nexus6 is correct... a 12-year old bottle of scotch in 2019 would have been distilled in 2007... and therefore would have been produced under the current Queen. Whether or not the labeling would reflect that when it is bottled is hard to say, but I would tend to think given the way scotch is typically labeled it would: 'distilled in 2007 by Appointment to Her Majesty The Queen' sounds MUCH more prestigious than 'bottled in 2019 by Appointment to His Majesty The King...' _________________ Fiery the angles fell, deep thunder rolled around their shores, burning with the fires of Orc. |

It's not who's Queen in the year 2019 that matters, it's the fact that the commission was given by the Queen in the first place
(probably Queen Victoria) that allows them to use her Royal Coat of Arms on the Bottle's Label (the one that goes on the CAP of our bottle with the Lion and Unicorn and appears in the upper left corner if you follow this link).
Look here for further info: http://www.royalwarrant.org/
Very interesting reading!

Here is another interesting point, maybe some of you saw this already.
It was put up recently on Yahoo as to how Johnnie Walker got his start;
apparently he began by brewing tea's before he got into brewing Whiskey!
I guess you guy's that want to put tea in your bottle are actually not that far off!

Wow...I keep finding out interesting stuff!
I looked around the link I supplied above and did a search for current Warrent Holders through the Crown of England.
It would seem that Johnnie Walker has let there titleship lag...so, while they show her majesties seal on their bottle...they are not listed as a Warrent holder at the site.
It sounds as though warrent's (right to display a royal crest)are reviewed every 4-6 years and are renewed or abolished depending on
"services rendered to the Crown" during that time. |
